The Queue: Yes or no?
In a look behind the curtain, one thing I learned very early on making content — even as far back as actual writing school — is to never lead with a question which could be answered with a simple yes or no, because that’s all you’ll get, and you’ll have to work to get the person you’re questioning to elaborate further with follow-ups. We do this every day with our Discussion Topic. You’ll also see this in action on social media with questions that go viral. It’s never, “did you like Catcher in the Rye,” it’s always, “what was the worst book you had to read in school?” Which, by the way, it was Catcher in the Rye.
This is The Queue, where you ask us questions and we definitely aren’t jerks about answering them.
Q4tQ: anyone at all surprised there’s a “Mankrik’s Wife” card with this Hearthstone expansion? :P
No.
Q4TQ: will the Apple Glass be another Google Glass, or will the idea actually work this time?
Yes.
I feel like wearable tech is one of those things I can’t quite grasp the actual utility of. It might be useful for people who do a lot of repetitive outdoor activities to have their hands free, but even in those cases, when I personally ride my bike on the road I’d be leery of reducing my general awareness of cars, and if I’m hiking I’d much rather see the woods. They don’t seem to have anything like photo or video tech either, reducing my desire to wear them out and about even more.
Not to be the buzzkill who wrings their hands and says, “but isn’t that dangerous?” but I guess that’s what I’m doing.
I like the whole “wave of the future” feeling of it, but that’s about where it ends for me. Also, I’m nearsighted and deeply skeptical of “oh no, it’s fine, we have tech for that.”
Do you think we’ll get more soulshapes in 9.1?
Yes.
To me Soulshapes seem like a relatively low-hanging fruit of a feature, kinda similar to the jukebox in the Garrison. They already have the majority of the work done — they just need to create a new mesh with some particle effects in it and link it to the Soulshape spell, and decide on the method of sending you out into the world to obtain it.
On the other hand, if you’re not a Night Fae you miss out on that feature completely, so I can see why they wouldn’t want to hype it up too much, given the cries of “faction bias!” with every new content release. However, frankly, Soulshapes are an even trade for having the Queen’s Conservatory as opposed to the Ember Court.
Do you think we’ll ever find out what Sylvanas did to Koltira? Will it have any effect on the story going forward?
No.
I doubt we’ll find out the nitty-gritty of exactly what she did to him, exactly. I think “she tortured the bejeezus out of him” is enough of an indication as to what went on without having to explicitly fill in the blanks there.
I will admit that I’m somewhat curious as to exactly how she did it, but less from a torture-y point of view as opposed to the actual mechanics of Undead physiology and whatnot. The Undead aren’t immune to physical pain, plus he’s a Death Knight and thereby much harder to affect mentally — or maybe that’s just part of the fun challenge of the whole thing. Heck, from what we know about the Undead, maybe they forced him to snuggle in a basket of puppies or do a soothing collagen face mask or something.
But in this case, I think just being ominous about it is enough.
