The Queue: Forgot it was Friday edition

Friday, where do you come from? Where do you go? It sneaks up like a flash, and then it vanishes without a trace. Weird how that seems to happen every week.

ROXXII THE ASCENDED ASKED:

Q4TQ: What do you think about the Sanctum of Domination meta achievements? Is there one you liked the most? One you liked the least?

My answers are it was fine. I liked the achievement for the Eye. Disliked the achievement for Fatescribe as its just as “do the mechanics correctly” achievement.

The best achievement is definitely Name A Better Duo, I’ll Wait. We all want to reunite Buttons and Mraz and should do this achievement as a matter of course every time we enter the Sanctum of Domination. In fact, it should be required. What kind of heartless individual would want to keep these two apart? No, no, we must always help them find their way back to one another.

But my guild has just started working on Sanctum achievements, so I honestly am not super familiar with them yet. For least favorite, we have gotten stuck on Tormenter’s Tango, but I think that was mostly because we haven’t killed Painsmith in quite a while and so we’ve all forgotten how to dodge. I don’t think it’s going to be a challenge forever, we just need to get used to the encounter again.

And actually Fatescribe sounds like a difficult one to me. Sure, it’s a “just do the encounter” achievement, but it requires you to do the encounter perfectly. In an average fight, people are going to occasionally get hit by balls or clipped by beams. It’s a challenge to get everyone to do a fight perfectly. This one may not be an interesting challenge, but I have no doubt that it will be a challenging challenge.

TELWAR ASKED:

What’s a word you use that is a valid (and cromulent) word, but not one that typically would be used in normal day to day conversation?

For me, it’s cavalcade. As in “this request has a cavalcade of claims errors!”

I use “grok” a lot, a term Heinlein coined in Stranger in a Strange Land. Sometimes I wonder if people even know what grok means (usually right after I’ve hit send on an email containing the word). I don’t see it used often, and maybe not everyone has read their Heinlein. Maybe I’m not getting my point across clearly by using the word, which is the exact opposite of what grokking should be.

Then I remember it’s in the dictionary and if someone doesn’t understand they can look it up.

Cavalcade is a great word though.

BOVEN WHITEHOOF SAID:

Well, phase 3 at least.

Phase 3 is a stone’s throw to dead. You’ve got this! Or at least you’ll eventually get it. Hang in there and keep trying.

I think it’s the length of this fight that’s a real problem. If it was broken up into a phase 1 = one fight, phase 2 = trash between fights, and phase 3 = another fight it would be much easier to tackle. As it is, you have to have your full attention focused for about 15 minutes, because even when you can do phase 1 and phase 2 perfectly fine, a wipe while learning phase 3 — and there will be bunches of them — tosses you back to the beginning. It’s easy to lose focus, to get bored, to just want to work on the new stuff instead of doing phase 1 again and again and again. It’s hard to keep a whole group focused enough to get there, and as everyone loses focus you have more deaths which means less chance to get back to phase 3 and eventually the wheels fall off the whole attempt. Whether you’re running LFR or Mythic that’s dang frustrating… and it’s not really a frustration born out of the difficulty of the fight, it’s out of a difficulty of attention.

But whether you were pugging this or doing a guild run, you’ll get there eventually, if you’re patient and do everything you can to stay focused and see it through to the end.

SPENCER MORGAN ASKED:

Q4tLiz: did you ever play Majora’s Mask? How was it?

This is an easy question, because I haven’t played it and therefore have no opinion. I actually never even own a Nintendo 64. I think I was doing more PC gaming at the time, and just didn’t keep up with consoles for a while. (Of course these days I do the majority of my gaming on consoles. How times have changed.)

6K ASKED:

QftPodcast: Do you think of yourself as a skeleton surrounded by stuff, or as a brain going full bio-mech-warrior?

Okay, this isn’t the podcast but I can safely say I am a brain trapped in this fleshy thing, perhaps one day to be free of this squishy shell in which I presently reside. Though I am, technically, also a skeleton surrounded by stuff, it is the brain that tells the skeleton what to do.

And that’s all for now, my friends. Hey, check it out, it’s still Friday! So go out and enjoy it while you can… or stay in and enjoy it, I’m not going to tell you how to live your life.

Well. Except to say take care of yourself and have a good weekend, which should really be your goal every weekend. So have a good one, folks, and I’ll see you back here next week.
