The Queue: Going fast
Hello and happy Thursday, Queuemans!
We’re nearing the end of Summer Games Done Quick, but that doesn’t mean there’s not plenty to love about the upcoming runs! I, for one, am incredibly excited for everything happening on Saturday. As always, I encourage you to check out the stream, especially if you’ve never given GDQ a watch.
But that’s GDQ. This is a gee-darn-Queue. So let’s Queue.
Q4Q: when cutting veggies do you slice by length or width?
I’d say typically the vegetable is laying long ways (horizontal) and I’m slicing vertically. But it kind of depends on the vegetable itself and the overall goal of what I’m cooking.
That said, we all know the best way to chop veggies quickly is to throw them in a blender on low speed. It’s basically the same thing as cutting them.
Q4tQ: whatr is your favorite halloween movie and why is it hocus pocus
Look, I’m sorry, but I have to give this to Trick ‘r Treat. Is it the best movie out there? Probably not! But it has an air of “Spooky Halloween ghost stories” mixed with the right amount of campiness, and it’s right up my alley.
(Also, I didn’t see Hocus Pocus until, like, college, so the nostalgia factor is lost on my there.)
Q4tQ: What game would you like to see become a regular feature at Games Done Quick? My choice is The Longing
If not a 3D Mario title outright, I’d love to see more of the Mario Maker custom levels tackled, especially as a relay race. Those are just so, so impressive and also hecka fun to watch. Plus, they’re custom content so you’re not going to see the same thing two events in a row.
Q4tQ: if you could only have one, would you rather have more frequent updates with less content, or less frequent updates with more content?
More frequent updates, hands down. Blizzard has been doing an okay job of time-gating things, but I still feel like it’s possible to grind through most of the “new” stuff pretty quickly and then wind up with the repeatable stuff. Which, hey, it works… but I’d still love a steadier trickle of content. The “.5” patches have been nice in that regard, but I feel like even those are getting bigger. Give us something a step smaller, in between all the other updates.
The only counter point I have here (against myself) is that less frequent updates often means periods of downtime when I don’t have to worry about feeling compelled to play.
Q4TQ: Ninjas or Pirates?
I’ll take either if Taika Waititi is the one directing ’em.
Q4tQ: Based on the two released talent trees, do you have any hopes for any of the major Shadow Priest abilities? Some of the talents are based on covenant abilities, but all of those are very “meh” for Shadow, while other talents are past Legendary abilities, but a lot of those were incorporated into our base abilities during the Shadowlands revamp. If Blizz is going to be forced to create new abilities for us anyway, anything cool on your wish list? Those Void Portals animations we saw all over BfA would make a pretty cool addition to our tool kit.
Full disclosure: I haven’t really looked at the talent trees that have been released so far. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a Druid at max-level, and my DK is primarily a “tank and don’t think about things” alt I use to feel powerful. But as far as talents go? I don’t know jack about these classes, so looking at their talent trees — while still helpful! — hasn’t been a priority for me; I’ve been waiting specifically for Priests’ talent preview so I can get a better grasp for what’s been moved/changed.
That said, you’re totally right — and updated spell animations have been on my Wish List since back in 2015. I feel like enemies and bosses have a wealth of Void-based abilities to choose from and while I wish I had a more specific answer, honestly, I’d take any of them. Remember Halo? Remember how cool that looked? I want more like that, especially for Shadow which doesn’t always get a whole lot of showy animations. (Granted, overall visibility in combat is another issue entirely that WoW has, buuuut…)
That’s today’s Queue! We’re about to enter July which means it’s birthdays galore here (including my own). Feel free to get some cake or ice cream to digitally join in the fun!
(Oh, and don’t forget to ask questions.)
