What else would you like to see added to the World of Warcraft Collector’s Editions?

Since the very first release of World of Warcraft you’ve been able to acquire the game in a special Collector’s Edition box, and for every expansion since — as well as on the 15th Anniversary — players can add a box of physical goodies to their shelf. Dragonflight, of course, continues this tradition with the standard art book and mousepad, as well as the more recent common inclusion of pins (which seems to be the go-to replacement for the late, lamented expansion soundtrack CD).

I’m not one to question tradition, really, but the inclusion of a mousepad in every set except the first and Battle for Azeroth‘s (which also eschewed the art book) is really odd at this point. For one thing, mousepads aren’t as necessary as they once were, and for another, does anyone use up a mousepad in two years? I’m pretty sure the one on my desk was acquired over ten years ago. I would much rather have an art print or lithograph like the one included in the 15th Anniversary edition to frame instead.

The 15th Anniversary edition is also unique in that it included a statue of Ragnaros; while many other franchises have been including statues and figurines in their CEs — Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and OdysseyGod of War, Horizon: Forbidden West, and FFXIV: Endwalker all included statues — so far WoW has largely resisted. The concern of course is the increase in CE cost if a statue is included, as the 15th Anniversary edition only cost roughly $100 but didn’t include the game software. With Dragonflight the net cost of the physical goodies is $40, and I’m not sure an included figure could fit that budget.

The one item I wish WoW and other franchises would go back to including in their CEs are maps, especially of the cloth variety.  The original Collector’s Edition is the only time WoW has included a map, and I feel like we’re all poorer for it. For one thing, maps are awesome! For another, they function as a quick reminder of where things are — I remember playing many games in the ’90s with a map pinned to the wall next to my PC for reference purposes.

What about you? Do you want to see a return of maps and/or statues to the Collector’s Editions for WoW expansions? Or are you happy with the mousepad and pins? What other options would you like to see included?
