We’re getting an additional bag slot in Dragonflight, but it’s just for reagents

Yes, players are getting an extra bag slot in Dragonflight, but it’s a reagent bag, likely the same as the reagent tab you have in your bank right now. Now, that’s not bad. If you do crafting or gathering, your bags quickly fill up with the reagents you’re either using to make things or gathering while out adventuring, especially since Dragonflight is making several changes to crafting and professions. Having a dedicated bag for those reagents will actually free up a good amount of space. This is necessary because in the upcoming expansion, the different qualities of crafting materials will not stack so if you have Tier 1 and Tier 2 ore, that ore is going to take up more slots in your bags. Blizzard decided in addition to increasing stack size, a new bag specifically for reagents was necessary.

I can’t see a negative to having it, rather I think it’s a great idea to combat the possible reagent bloat from the upgraded crafting system. But it’s still not a straightforward fifth bag slot and it won’t really help you if you decide you’re going to empty your bags and do a transmog run through an older raid for older gear looks. [Ed’s note: it will help you by giving you spots for all the cloth and other crafting items you inevitably pick up on a transmog run!]

The quest for more bag space has been an ongoing one throughout the entirety of World of Warcraft’s 18 year history. That’s been addressed with larger bags in (almost) every expansion, due to the difficulty of altering the code to provide more slots for more bags. We’ve also seen the main backpack get expanded (slightly) if you add an authenticator to your account, bringing that base backpack up to 20 slots in rather than 16. But up until now, we haven’t been able to just add more bags to help with our inventory space woes.

So it may seem a little churlish to say that it’s only a reagent bag. But I only mean to warn folks not to get swept away in fantasy of an additional 34 inventory slots you could fill up with whatever you want, because that’s not the case. It is very cool that we’ve got a reagent bag, especially when leveling in Dragonflight when you may find yourself doing a lot of gathering and will appreciate not having to clog up your other bags with skin and rocks. I personally am very excited for this, but at the same time, I wouldn’t mind more regular bags. Heck, maybe even another four slots for the original backpack? While we’re dreaming?

I for one welcome my new reagent bag overlord.
