How closely will you be following the Dragonflight alpha test?

By virtue of my job here at Blizzard Watch, I expect I’ll be paying fairly close attention to the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight public alpha. For one thing, well, I’m in it. I have a very hard time doing things like rolling characters, testing out new talent builds and new classes like the Dracthyr Evoker, and otherwise playing a test version of a game if I’m not paying attention.

For another, I’ve been playing World of Warcraft since 2004. That means this year will mark the 18th year I’ve been playing it, and that means that at any moment I could crumble into dust. But it also means I’ve invested a decent chunk of my life into the game, and so, I’m very curious about all the ways that Dragonflight seems poised to change WoW.

Whether it be that aforementioned Dracthyr Evoker race/hero class, or the various changes to talents, or the professions revamp, or even the changes to body type that make it possible to play your character without a hard and fast gender attached to them, there’s a lot coming and I want to be aware of it.

But there are perfectly good reasons to avoid public alphas, betas, and so on. One is that some players don’t want to know what’s coming next — not just the story (although spoilers are definitely a thing), but they also don’t want to hear about changes to the class or spec they’re currently playing until those changes are locked in. Not everybody is good at giving feedback or has any sort of critical assessment of incoming changes and would rather find out what they are once they’re finalized. And that’s a valid choice. This is after all a game that people play for fun.

Being that you all are part of the site’s community, you’re probably pretty invested in these kinds of things. So let me ask you — how much attention will you pay to the Dragonflight public alpha test? Will you be reading posts about it, watching videos, maybe even playing it yourself if you get the chance? What level of investment do you have in alphas like this?
