The Queue: Arrrr

My brain tends to work in a weird web, where someone mentions something, which reminds me of a second thing, the mention of which then reminds me of a third thing, and on down the line until suddenly I surface with a reference or comment which seems like a total non-sequitur, but it makes sense to me.

Anyway, pirates.

This is The Queue, where you ask us questions, and did you know Moby Dick was based on a true story? The fate of the Essex was even more brutal than the book suggests. The year was 1819…

Oh, absolutely. I mean, have they… made any Monk gear since Mists of Pandaria? Because if they have, I haven’t noticed.

It varies a lot by character, too. My Blood Elf Mage will switch it up pretty considerably, swapping between whatever she thinks might be the most fashionable at the time. She doesn’t use a specific color palette or expansion or vibe — it’s all about the fashion, darling. And yes, she is incredibly upset that Opulence is technically not soloable yet. She needs literally every crown. By contrast, my Blood Elf Hunter chooses simple, mostly older or leveling gear. Her gear will vary, but she mostly sticks with pieces that seem easy to move in, usually in green or brown palettes so she has some measure of camouflage — flower crowns count as camouflage.

By contrast, since Outlaw spec became a thing, my Gnome Rogue is always in her Alliance Fleet Commander’s Hat. What she wears with it will vary, but she always has that hat on.

This is a really tricky one, since both Goblins and Death Knights seem, as a whole, pretty detached from the whole nature-and-animals vibe of Soulshapes. I might go with the Hyena, because it has less of that Disney Princess sparkly creatures feeling than many of the others. Hyenas generally struggle to survive in the same way as the Goblins since they were unceremoniously exploded out of Undermine, so it feels like a decent pick.

The Cobra would also work, but I feel like every time you ask about Soulshapes, I’m like “hey, have you considered doing an indeterminate amount of what’s certain to be a lot of PVP?”

So, the thing with Disqus is that it’s not great but neither is anything else. Disqus definitely has its issues and its quirks — the thing where regular articles and the simplified mobile versions of the same article have different comment sections, for instance.

However, nearly every comment structure we’ve explored sucks more than Disqus, which really isn’t saying all that much. We’ve also used Disqus for a long time, and generally when we have to swap commenting structures that means that all the comments on previous articles get unceremoniously nuked. And, maybe most importantly, the back end moderation tools for Disqus tend to be fairly robust, which is very important. It’s one of those “if you do it right people will never know you did anything at all” kind of issues.
