The Queue: Heck yeah, Splatoon 3!
Do I really need to say it? Splatoon 3 comes out at midnight tonight and I’m very, very excited. Not necessarily because I think it’s going to be GOTY or the next big thing but rather because it’s just good ol’ fun. Also I love Splatfests and they consistently make for a fun Queue topic, so I’m really looking forward to those coming back as well.
But enough about Splatoon 3. Let’s talk about The Queue.
Q4 Mitch: Have you been reading up on all the leaked Splatoon 3 stuff, or are you saving yourself for Friday?
Saving it all! I generally go into games, movies, whatever I can with as little info as possible. Especially since I don’t always get that luxury with the games I like/work on, it’s nice to separate the two worlds even more. It also makes things more fun to me!
So while I know there was a leak and have seen some of the Nintendo Direct content, I’ve kept myself intentionally in the dark. Honestly, I recommend trying the same sometime! It’s really changed my movie-going experience.
Q4tQ: Are you pumped for Splatoon 3 coming out on Friday? Did the game leaking early ruin anything for you? How worried should Nintendo, or other big companies in general, be worried about games being available to pirate prior to them even going on sale?
I think I’ve answered those first two already (big yes and solid no, respectively). I think in this day and age, developers should have a backup plan and then a second backup plan for that backup plan when it comes to leaks. Or, if not a plan, at least be prepared for it to happen — even if that simply means asking players to be kind and not spoil things.
The Fortnite community, for instance, is (maybe “was”?) good about not leaking big information. The dataminers and usual suspects would have the information — but they all came together and decided to let players enjoy it live without spoilers. If you can get a community like that, you’re in good shape.
WoW, on the other hand, is datamined up and down so Blizz has moved to encrypting certain files and videos and whatnot. I’m assuming it’s their best workaround at the moment without completely shutting down datamining sites, but it kinda stinks that they have to even spend time encrypting (admittedly, I don’t know how much extra production time that adds).
I don’t have a great answer that isn’t, like, dependent on people just being decent humans. Plan for leaks, try to get ahead of them if they happen, and hope whatever does leak isn’t horrible press.
Could’ve have sworn I heard you say your shoulders DID drop eventually. Anyway, back playing the game after 3 years out thanks to Blizz gifting me SL. I’m finishing off all the BfA stuff and wondered if there’s any shortcut to getting flying or do I really have to do all the rep grinds and everything else that’s in those Pathfinder achievements?
You don’t need to do a bunch of rep grinds, but there are SOME grinds to do:
- Earn 44 Renown with your Covenant
- Complete all 9 chapters of the Covenant Campaign
- Complete up through the 3rd chapter of the 9.1 “Chains of Domination” Campaign (ending with The Primus Returns)
You earn Renown pretty easily now, so I’d focus on the Covenant Campaign for now. Zereth Mortis has its own flying achievement, though, and you’ll want that, too. It’s a bit harder with the rare encounter bit, but you addons can make a world of difference there.
Don’t demon hunters also start underground in a very similar stasis fashion?
“The darkness is a metaphor for darkness!”
But really, you bring up a good point. (Though, as someone pointed out, the Demon Hunter stasis thing happens partway through their intro, not right away.) Maybe the next Hero Class or whatever they’re being called now can just, like… plummet out of the sky. Or just do an anti-Hades and make your way down from the heavens until you reach Azeroth. 4
Hi Mitch. I have a Mitch Lore Question: What is the tale of how Mitch came to find his arch-nemesis the wombat?
RetPallyJil: Is the wombat named Jovan?
Well, for starters, Jovan is a very hard-working Writer/Editor here at Blizzard Watch, not a wombat.
The wombat appeared way back when in November of 2016. I saw wombats everywhere, consistently. Then THE wombat itself appeared. I didn’t know what was happening, but the universe was clearly trying to tell me something. Something wombat-related.
Or maybe someone just really likes messing with me.
So, how do we think Demon Hunters are going to handle not being the youngest anymore? Are they going to act out and steal Warlock’s toys?
Demon Hunters have already sacrificed everything (what have you given?!) so it’s a bit mean to take away their youth. They already stole Warlock toys, though, so maybe they’ll have to start stealing some Rogue things.
I’m looking at resubbing, and I was hoping to buy a token with gold but it says I don’t have enough. I know I had enough at one time, so I think I’m pretty sure I’m close, but is there any way to see how much gold one has account-wide? And another question: I haven’t played since 9.0. I plan to play through the Korthia and Zereth Mortis stories, but is there anything else I should make sure to do before Dragonflight?
To see account-wide gold, you’d need an addon, and you’d likely need to first log into all your characters for it to properly show.
It all depends on what your goals are while playing. Do you only want to see the main story, not worrying about Covenant stories? Do you want to take advantage of rare-farming and limited-time World Quests to collect a bunch? Do you just want gear that’ll come in handy for leveling?
I will say, I haven’t actually finished Korthia next. You don’t really need it for any of the current content, and there’s no flying to unlock there.
If I have a piece of armor with a gem slot and a tertiary stat, does that persist when I make it into Tier? Pretty sure it’s yes, but I’m too lazy to fly over there and check for myself.
The only things that will not persist are the gem itself (but the slot stays) and any enchants you may have. And I guess transmog, too, if that minor inconvenience in fashion affects anything.
That’s our Queue for today! Y’all know what I’ll be doing — but tomorrow’s writer still needs some questions, so don’t forget to ask some. See y’all later!
