The Queue: How many birthdays we got in here?
Dang, so many of you had your birthdays over the weekend!
Happy birthday to Eno, Tiger Hawke, and FuzzyBunny!
While I try and figure out if there was a major holiday nine months ago, it’s time for — The Queue.
Q4tQ: what was the last game you quit playing (not finished if that was possible, but actively quit) and why?
I finally decided I’ve had enough of Hearthstone Battlegrounds, and I just uninstalled it after conceding another frustrating round. >_< It used to feel like a challenge to see how well I could build my minions, but now it just feels like a fight with RNG to get anywhere, especially with the quests completely ruining the balance. I’m not getting anything good out of the game, so I’m done with it. Which is a shame, since it was a fun diversion for a while, but I’m not going to keep playing a game that does nothing but make me feel like I’m not good enough at it.
The last game I quit was some spaceship shooter game that came out on Xbox Gamepass. It was a fairly big budget, maybe not AAA but not indie either. I was happily zoomin around blowing up other spaceships and vibing with the overwrought space opera storytelling when the game crashed. Sure that’s no biggy, crashes happen y’know. Only my save went with it.
It was fun, but it wasn’t replaying the first three-five hours of the game fun.
I don’t consciously quit games very often though. Usually, I’ll stick with it to the end, or accidentally put it down and get busy and just never come back to it.
Game Pass does make it really easy to make that decision though, it’s nice to be able to try games and not have the 40-80$ price tag as a barrier to entry.
Question for LoreWatch, inspired by some back to back runs on my Death Knight and Demon Hunter:
Pretend you’re a non-heroic, reasonably well informed citizen of one of the larger cities on Azeroth (Stormwind, Silvermoon, Orgrimmar, Ironforge (you get the idea)). You’ve heard of the Scourge, the Legion, the Ebon Blade, and the Illidari, but you don’t have any personal experience dealing with any of them.
One day you’re walking through the city, turn a corner onto a quiet street, and there, dressed and armed to the teeth in the style of whichever class, is either a Death Knight or a Demon Hunter.
The question: from a lore/in-universe perspective, which one would be more terrifying to randomly encounter, and why?
I think on the face of it Death Knights are the scarier thing to encounter. You’ve got people who’ve come back from the dead and then covered themselves in the biggest, thickest, most skull-covered armor that they could. What are they trying to protect themselves from?!
They’re also likely to have a pet ghoul rolling around with them. Any citizen of Azeroth would probably remember the ghoul plagues that came around and ransacked the cities.
Death is also a force that is more recognizable to people. Demons are pretty scary for sure, and there have been lots of demonic invasions to go around. However, thanks to the Heroes of Azeroth those aren’t quite as big of a deal. Death is still something that everybody is going to be dealing with.
Unless of course, they’ve made some sort of bargain with a demon to have immortality…
QftQ: If Lay’s was an Azerothian snack brand, what limited edition flavors would you like to see? Westfall Stew? Redridge Goulash?
Warlock Soulstone was the first thing that came to mind. We’ve called them cookies long enough, what if they’re actually more of a savory avocado flavor?
I’d also be really interested in a Dirge’s Kickin’ Chimearok Chops flavor. Anything involving Goblin Rocket Fuel in its creation must have a truly memorable kick.
Why can’t I get a robe to drop in M+? I’ve run ten-plus 15s this week, plus a bunch of 2-5s for easy Valor, and no robes. Still rocking a 272 from last season.
Definitely, time to start making sacrifices to the dark gods.
It’s pretty amazing that you haven’t gotten one yet though, it’s not even like you’re running for a specific trinket out of a specific dungeon! I understand how it can take people so many runs if they were busy trying to get an Inscrutable Quantum Device, or something similar — that’s just one thing out of an entire dungeon’s loot table! A chest, on the other hand, there should be some in if not every dungeon, most of them at least.
So here’s what you do, next time you’re playing with a Boomkin who gets mind controlled or pulls aggro off of the tank. You just unleash some Chaos Bolts into their face, or not make a demon taunt — whichever is easier.
Then you’re bound to get your robe, guaranteed.
good morning!
Finished Harrow the Ninth and As Yet Unsent (a short story after Harrow) so I’m all ready for Nona the Ninth on Tuesday! Now I just need to hope the library actually has it available for me this week …
I am 18th in line on my library’s ebook app for Nona the Ninth.
This is all your fault. If you hadn’t gotten me to read Gideon the Ninth I wouldn’t be eagerly awaiting more space necromancer weirdness!
There’s a chance that they’ll have some “skip-the-line, only a week-long” copies available when it comes out. That was the case for The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin when that first released, so I’m crossing my finger real hard here.
Speaking of The City We Became… where’s my sequel to that!
Today’s Anna Earworm™: Stereo
Do you know who else has a birthday soon? Liz!
It’s Liz’s birthday on Tuesday, so make sure that you all wish her the best tomorrow, in-between asking Anna questions that is.
