The Queue: The anguish and the ecstasy of transmog

One of my favorite sets is the Heroic version of the Sanctified Ymirjar Lord’s Battlegear, the red variant. But there’s a really noticeable problem with this set — no, not the belly shirt, I’ve made my peace with that one. Instead, it’s the lack of a belt that is considered part of the set. It used to be the lack of a belt and boots, but then they added the heroic version of the Etched Dragonbone Warboots back in Legion.

Of course, that belt not being there still made me feel like I was going crazy. There was a belt that worked with the set — the various heroic versions of belts from the earlier Cataclysm raids like the Jumbotron Power Belt were a close enough color match if you squinted and didn’t clash too badly with the set.

But in patch 10.0.2, Blizzard heard my prayers and added the Ymirjar Berserker’s Girdle, an exact color/style match with the heroic Ymirjar set.  However, I missed this extremely crucial news in all the leveling and such, and so only yesterday did I discover that yes, not only did this beauty exist on the Trial of Style vendor, but I’ve won that thing enough times that I had enough tokens to buy it. And now, at last, I have a complete matching set of Ymirjar Lord’s Battlegear and I’m so happy. I also bought a sword I’ll never use because why not?

Now all we need is for the devs to bring back all of these models that were never used in Wrath of the Lich King. I’m patient, I can wait.

SOEROAH

I know it’s not a lot of people’s thing, but I looove old lore being recontextualised with new perspectives. I was super excited by the dreadlord book when it got datamined and I loved seeing the positive community reactions to that at the time, and now there’s a book on the PTR that lifts really old lore verbatim from, I believe, the Warcraft 3 manual in the form of a book and adds in-universe character scribbles debating every paragraph with their own view

It is, however, exceedingly my jam, so I also am here for it. Mild spoilers await behind this link, which is the book in question.

Let me be clear that so far nothing we’ve seen in Dragonflight actually contradicts the established lore. The Titans (and especially their Titanforged servants like Odyn) have been at best absentees and at worst rigid, doctrinal and not at all concerned with our mortal lives — heck, Algalon was going to wipe out all life on Azeroth in order to prevent the Old Gods from getting  loose, and he only backed off on that one when we punched/stabbed/set him on fire enough.

That doesn’t make the Old Gods our buddies or anything — they also don’t give a rat’s behind for us, being utterly willing to melt our faces, drive us insane, and use us as flesh-hosts for unimaginable horrors. And I’m on record if you listen to Lore Watch saying that I think us going back in time to the Black Empire allowed N’Zoth to read our minds and learn the future, which is why he was so interested in us back in Battle for Azeroth.

But yeah, I absolutely dig all the playing around in the margins of the game’s story so far. It’s just beautiful to me.

So, for the ‘kill 25 raid bosses’ one could conceivably run a couple lfr wings on a few alts?

This is for the Trader’s Tender activities, and I wanted to answer it because yesterday I cleared out Blackwing Descent and those bosses counted as raid bosses for the activity. Yes, Cataclysm era raid bosses netted me 5, although I think it should have been six — for some reason it didn’t count the Omnotron kill, possibly because they’re a collective boss.

So if you’re hungry to complete this one — note that there’s also a Dragonflight specific one that requires Vault and maybe World Bosses, haven’t check it yet — you can just clear out old raids.

ARCUBALLIS

I’ve been looking forward to the trading post ever since it was announced, since it’s perfect for a filthy delightful casual like me. Did not think I’d finish the whole thing in 5 hours. Oh well!

I may be the only person who skipped the flail. I decided I’d rather have the cheapos that I liked, and I froze the pet. Got 425 tendies leftover so here’s hoping for something shiny in March.

Hey, flail skipping buddies! *Fistbump*

I just didn’t really want it. Plus, I was amazed to discover that I didn’t have the Celestial Steed. Kind of made my decision for me.

I would have sworn I bought  it already but I may have gotten it as a gift for my wife, it’s something I do and then forget I didn’t also get myself one.

Anyone do any Solo Shuffle? (PvP)
If so, how was the experience?

I’ve done it a few times now, so I’ll say the best and worst thing about it.

Best — You can get Conquest and PVP Rating as a solo player.

Worst — Don’t even try this unless you can pull up in ar0und ilevel 380 or higher, because people are going to sniff out who has the lowest health/defense and they are going to burn you as hard as they can.

Make sure to get as much survivability as you can. On my Warriors I often go Prot and make sure I have Second Wind in case I manage to get a solid ten seconds to heal up, and I generally enjoy a Shockwave based build for the AoE stun even though everyone has trinkets or other abilities because everyone also has a ton of CC it seems.

Opinion piece: “XT 25M HM needs to be nerfed”

Me: …why? XT goes down in one hit…

Oh right, all those players living in the past…

Honestly, while I am not playing Wrath Classic, I am glad it’s here for the people who wanted it. As I get older, I have really stopped feeling even the slightest of the old urge that made me once say you’re doing it wrong when it comes to personal preference in video games. Sure, some talent builds in Dragonflight are sub optimal. Sure, I don’t personally care for the WoW Classic playstyle.

But it doesn’t hurt me that there’s a version of World of Warcraft out there that lets players play the older content without all the new stuff WoW has added over the years. As long as you’re having fun and not hurting anyone else, I support all manner of individual play.

That being said, according to Warcraft Logs apparently no one in the world had yet killed XT Hardmode on Wrath Classic, and that’s pretty amazing because they’ve already cleared Yogg 0 and Algalon. So it may actually need a nerf, we’ll see.

I admit I kind of like the idea of them not nerfing it. It would be funny if XT remained unkillable until ICC.

Okay, that’s the Queue for today. Have fun with your Trading Posts and your transmog stuffs and I’ll be over here killing old raid bosses for transmog because I am just so happy with this belt. You don’t even know, y’all.
