The Queue: Charting the return of a dwarf hunter

Pay no attention to that byline, yer old pal and fav’rite dwarf hunter of bygone days Chrth (alongside as always me trusty boar Baldrick) is here ta answer your questions today. Hopefully I got some good ones to answer because otherwise this will be less a Q&A and more a Q&B — quick and boring!

BOVEN WHITEHOOF IS LOOKING TO GET SOME CLASS

Why won’t Blizz let Tauren be warlocks? Is it because they’d be so awesome that everyone would race change to Tauren (even Alliance players)?

I do not ken what you mean by “race change”, but I suspect that the lack of Tauren Warlocks is an issue of time. See, we know there are some cousins of the Tauren from Highmountain who pursued a Fel path during the Burning Legion’s latest incursion some years back and after their leaders were defeated they returned to the fold. I dunno if Chieftain Mayla is actively resisting the idea of them teaching their skills to others or whether it’s just happening too slowly for others to notice yet. I do reckon that once the Highmountain become Warlocks, the Tauren will shortly follow thereafter.

THOMAS STRANGE ASKS A DIPLOMATIC QUESTION

Horde embassy in Exodar, Alliance embassy in Silvermoon…

Yah or nah?

Except for this weird human fella I once met, any diplomat worth their salt would balk mightily at being sent to these locations as it’s basically exile. Communication lines back to your capital are nigh-nonexistent, and neither faction uses those locations for major discussions.

So yah, definitely build them because I can think of a fair number of leaders I’d like to put as far away from Stormwind or Orgrimmar as possible.

MUSEDMOOSE IS INTERESTED IN ANY BIG’UNS I’VE KILLED

What was the first raid boss you ever killed?

I think mine was back in Cata, when I joined two folks from the guild I was in and we ran through Molten Core. This was long before there were any changes to make soloing easier, so while it wasn’t a challenge, we weren’t one-shotting everything either. And we did have to run out of the instance once when we screwed up the thing where the core hounds respawned endlessly. Oops.

My first serious action was deployment to Wintergrasp to help the Alliance recover a Titan Relic or two that the Horde also wanted. After we secured the location we discovered this big fire giant — I think its name was Koralon or summat like that. I was sent with a squad to deal with it and let me tell you half mah beard got singed that day.

That said, while that giant was the first, I reckon the first challenge I ever faced was ol’ Saurfang’s boy. Those blood beasts that would join in the fight were a sure menace and someone said “let the dwarf fight off any that appear on the left” and sure as a chipped knife after shaving this dwarf did so. Real sad about junior, though. I think a lot of suffering that happened later wouldn’t’ve if he had been in Orgrimmar instead of a grave.

PS: Aye, those blasted core hounds did that to me a couple times too, not fun times.

RED WANTS US TO EXPAND OUR RANKS

Q4Chrth: if Vrykul ever get added to WoW, are you race-changing yourself?

Again, dunno what all you are talking about with changing races, but I will say that I spent a good amount of time with Beastmaster Hilaire up at Trueshot Lodge and I reckon a Vrykul is the ideal adventuring companion so I’d love to see more of them about.

But no, Chrth is a dwarf tried and true, but I hear that Kalcheus fellow would be amenable to switching.

Speaking of Kalcheus, he’s gonna field the next few questions while I take Baldrick out for a bite to eat.

ENO FOCUSES ON MYTHS OUTSIDE OF AZEROTH

What do you think we should get more of from the God of War games?

I felt Ragnarok was a perfect capstone to Kratos’ journey, and while I’m sure someone somewhere will bring him back for another God of War game, I really hope they don’t.

That said, I love the world that was created in the recent two games, so I’d like to see different genres or even an action rpg with a different focus take place in that world. Just let Kratos rest.

JEKKJEKK ASKS A QUESTION IN OUR DISCORD (HEY DID YOU KNOW PATRONS GET SPECIAL DISCORD PRIVILEGES?)

Q4TP: WoW Currency. Why do we have so many? Do you think Blizzard should/could retire some? How would you streamline the 275 different currencies we have?

I’m not on the podcast team but I’ll take a stab at an answer.

We have so many because the development team wants different activities to be done at a specific pace. Elemental Overflow you can farm until your ears bleed but you ain’t getting more than 9 Storm Sigils a week because those can be used for some serious gearing.

I definitely feel like older currencies should be retired; make a new currency called Vintage Moolah and let us exchange Apexis Crystals and Oil and Timeless Coins for them at an appropriate rate. It’d make things so much easier which means it probably won’t happen, but still we can hope. Heck, they’ve done something similar in the past with enchanter mats and scribbler inks, so hopefully it’ll be done for currencies as well.

And while it’s not a true currency, it’d be great if “coins” from old expansions were consolidated too so I didn’t have to juggle making sure I have the right ones for any mounts or transmog I’m farming.

JABRONE IS STARING INTO THE VOID AND THE VOID IS STARING BACK … AND MEOWING

QfChrth:
What are your thoughts/feelings on the possibility of a fifth old god?

Is this possibly just scratching the surface of the inevitable void War?

Chrth is still outside, so I’ll field this one as well.

I’m pretty certain we’ll see a fifth old god — whether it’s Xal’atath as many have theorized or one that takes the form of a nose I’m not sure, but I know we’ll see more old gods because they just work too well in the world of Warcraft to shelve them indefinitely.

As for a void war being “inevitable” I am less certain. I’ve said this before (maybe not up in the text of the queue but definitely down in the comments) but I feel like one of the purposes of the last few expansions was to remove the notion that any of the six cosmic powers is absolutely good or evil. The reason this is being done (in my opinion) is because playable characters can draw on any of the cosmic powers for their abilities and it’s always been on the odd side that a Warlock could be immediately characterized as “evil” and a Paladin could be characterized as “good”. Thus we have fanatics like Xe’ra and Yrel painted in a poor light, death gods that are on our side, and hints that there’s still a traitor on the side of the Life working with the Nathrezim.

Long story short (too late) while I feel a cosmic war is inevitable, I don’t think it’ll be a case of Void vs All; instead each of the six powers will have representatives on both sides. In other words, the next old god we uncover will be an ally, not an enemy.

Chrth and Baldrick are back, and may I say Baldrick sure is a cutie-pie!

GLOWING METEOR CARROT IS TALKING ABOUT SHAMAN, AND SINCE I’M GOOD FRIENDS WITH A FEW I THINK I CAN ANSWER

Would Kurog Grimtotem get absolutely destroyed by Garrosh’s Dark Shaman?

Well I haven’t encountered Kurog Grimtotem yet but I hear he’s a right piece of work, but having dealt with Garrosh’s Dark Shaman I have to think Kurog will lose, and lose badly — unless he picks up their skills. The Dark Shaman did such an effective job of suppressing other elemental powers in Orgrimmar that one of the most powerful and respected Shaman I’ve ever encountered couldn’t even drop a cooking fire without flint and tinder.

Elementals are finicky creatures no matter how much you think they’ll listen to you. Give me a beast any day — sure, they’ll eat you out of house and home, but when you call for them you can be sure they’ll do their best to answer!

Well, that’s all the time I have to gab with ya today. I hope everybody has a very pleasant weekend, and if ye have the time and cooperating weather be sure to count the birds in your backyard for the Great Backyard Bird Count 2023. It’s what Baldrick and I will be doing.
