You can now enjoy more (but still not all) holiday transmogs year-round
In late January, a simple one-line note appeared in the hotfixes: “Removed the holiday requirement for many holiday transmog rewards.” This was exciting news for many transmog enthusiasts, but also vague — what items had their holiday requirement removed? More importantly, which ones didn’t? Luckily, the folks at Wowhead did some digging and compiled a list of what’s available year-round now.
What’s changed: suits, dresses, flowers, and hats
A lot of the items that have had their restrictions removed are what you would think of as festive — if relatively ordinary — suits and dresses. This includes some extremely colorful options like the Lunar Festival’s Festival Dress and the two-part tuxedo from Noblegarden, the White Tuxedo Shirt and Black Tuxedo Pants. This opens the door for some more ordinary-looking gear, the same way the change to allow white and grey-quality transmog items does, but without looking as beat-up as some of those items do. This is your adventurer at their fanciest!
For Lunar Festival crown enthusiasts, the flower crowns like the Crown of Good Fortune were already transmoggable year-round if you did a quest during the holiday, but if you happened to miss it, now those crowns are available for use without the quest. Also on the list are the four Hallows’ End witch hats, like Hat of the First Sister, as well as the Bronze-Tinted Sunglasses that previously were part of the WoW Anniversary event, and the goggles from Brewfest (Synthebrew Goggles in both regular and XL sizes, and and Eyesight Enhancing Romance Goggles). Does your Death Knight or Warlock think Halloween is just a mood? Does your Paladin or Evoker prefer their shades big, chunky, and bronze? Show your style with these new hats!
As for actual weapon or off-hand transmog options, those are a little slimmer — but you can at least now hold a Bouquet of Red Roses or a Bouquet of Marigolds anytime you like, instead of just during their respective holidays.
Finally, some — but not all — of the Midsummer Fire Festival outfit is available year-round, with restrictions being lifted for the Vestments of Summer and their matching sandals.
What hasn’t: best hold off on those Christmas in July transmog plans
Unfortunately, for every item that was made transmoggable year round, there are plenty that aren’t. Usually these are things that would seem to be more closely related to a holiday’s theme, such as the Red Winter Hat or the Forever-Lovely Rose, but it’s a little hard to understand why I can wear a tuxedo but I can’t wear Pilgrim’s Attire. Furthermore, some of the holiday outfit restrictions differ between pieces of the same set; while we can now wear the Crown, Helm, Vestments, and Sandals of Summer, you’ll have to wait until it’s actually summer to wear the matching Mantle.
There’s always still hope for the future, though: on the 10.0.7 PTR, the Vile Fumigator’s Mask is now a transmoggable appearance — though just for cloth-wearing characters, it seems, as it has not yet been tagged cosmetic. Still, it at least indicates that Blizzard is still actively making more these holiday rewards available year round, and maybe one day the multi-holiday mashup outfit of your dreams will be available.
