The Queue: Liberte fantome

I think we all know how crazy I am for Cyberpunk 2077, but one thing I really haven’t talked about enough is how Cherami Leigh’s turn as V really has a lot to do with that.

It’s understandable that names like Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba grab a lot of attention. But Leigh’s V is such a big part of why the game is great, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the game started featuring the version of V voiced by her in its art right around the time it started trying to rehab its reputation.

Leigh is a prolific voice actor with an IMDB page with hundreds of entries, so it’s clear she has range. What she does with V is nothing short of remarkable, in that she manages to convey in turns grim resolve, cocky self assurance just this side of outright hubris, a mocking banter with the few people she bonds with, outrage, vulnerability, and a host more.

Anyway, Phantom Liberty will be out on September 26, which means I’ll finally be able to leave Sanctuary and go inhabit someplace possibly even worse. I am so ridiculously excited for this game.

IVORYTIGER

Follow-up question for the queue based on the last question/answer. If Blizzard could implement a good tutorial/training montage for a character starting at the current expansions base level (in this case 60), would you forsee an issue with starting new players at 60? With the option to start at level 1 on other characters? Or does that feel like you’re throwing away the ‘leveling content’? If they did start at 60, how would you, or would you, encourage new players to go explore old content?

I think I have to agree with Roxxii, the fact that they offer a level boost to expansion start level means they effectively do this with each new expansion.

I personally find starting a class at a high level to be somewhat difficult. I learn a class better by playing it as it levels, so just starting with all of the talents and abilities, or a sizeable amount of them, throws me off. It’s why I appreciated that Dragonflight solo content let me level up and get my characters to max level without inflicting learning the whole new talent system on a group.

You know … Transmog is starting to feel a bit stale. I say it’s time for an option where we can color our own armor. Don’t say “it can’t be done”. It can be done, it’s code. They said for years that “classic” couldn’t be done because “we no longer have the original code”. Then Classic showed up like Jack in the Box.

We want color options!

Yes, some would probably use it for rainbows. I would. If nothing else just to anger the one’s who colored themselves as the SS :P

Technically you’re right: it is possible for them to add this feature to WoW.

Possible does not mean ‘easy’ or ‘trivial’ though.

Games that offer transmog with color control options are deliberately written to do that. You’ll notice that many games exist with transmog options that were added after release — Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are just two that I’ve played in the past few years. And neither of those games allow you to add tints like this.

WoW is an old game. It will be 20 years old next year. The complexity and constant work to change and modernize it is staggering. The way armor pieces are displayed in WoW is not the same as it is in games that were designed to allow things like dyes or other tinting options.

So yeah, it can be done. But that doesn’t mean they’re going to think it’s worth doing.

ENO

Nice Queue, Rossi, for what was essentially a piece with almost no questions. XD

I mean, nothing stopping you from asking one. I would appreciate it.

XIV ASKS A QUESTION

Is it me or the max camera distance seems to go a little bit further out?

I don’t think it’s you, but I also don’t know if it’s deliberate. Back in June of 2022 WarcraftDevs tweeted about how it had accidentally gone way beyond what they’d intended to add as an accessibility change, I don’t know if it’s related to that.

MUSEDMOOSE ALSO ASKED A QUESTION

Silly Q4tQ: best vacation spot on Azeroth?

I’d ask about Sanctuary but, umm, no

Best spot on Azeroth — top of the sword in Silithus. You can see most of Kalimdor from up there and you’re rarely disturbed. Pitch a tent, have a cookout, enjoy the solitude.

Best spot on Sanctuary — RUN BOY RUN, THIS WORLD IS NOT MADE FOR YOU/ RUN BOY RUN, THEY’RE TRYING TO CATCH YOU.

So that’s the Queue for today. Liz is up tomorrow. Feel free to ask her lots of questions, I know she’ll likely appreciate it. Take care of yourselves, everyone.
