The Queue: I’m not even supposed to be here today!

What day is it? What time is it? The week is only beginning and I’m already at a loss.

So we may as well go ahead and Queue.

ENO ASKED:

As you were asking for questions for Cory, what kind of questions were you expecting, and how relieved are you that you’ll be getting Liz questions now?

I assume all of them are about bears. I apologize for requesting Cory questions and then asking you all to shift gears to Liz questions.

RETPALLYJIL ASKED:

Q4tQ:

Which of your characters (assuming $ was not an issue) would you commission art of?

Definitely my paladin. I have a series of watercolors from Vidyala (who used to be our Mage columnist), which for a while I got every BlizzCon. But I have little art of my Paladin — one comic-style piece that probably dates back to The Burning Crusade. I should really balance the scales there.

Art is good. Art makes me happy. Maybe I’ll get some for BlizzCon, even if I don’t go to BlizzCon this year.

FALLANGER ASKED:

In Diablo 4 the segments of the bone prison ability are considered minions, so you can use them for a lot of funny stuff that is targeted to minions, like thorns or cloning aoe attacks.
which is your more fondly remembered creative use of gameplay mechanics?

Oh man, I didn’t know that about Bone Prison. That would make it crazy for a thorns build… but I’ve always had trouble making use of it. I play on console and it’s a little hard to target, and it feels finicky.

I have been enjoying playing the rare breed of frost Necromancer. You can make all of your shadow spells apply chilled, and run a full shade build with bone storm (but shadow) and corpse explosion (but shadow). I don’t know if that’s a creative use of game mechanics, but I find all the strange combinations of talents and paragon and uniques and legendaries all tangled together to be quite fun.

RENOWNED EXPLORER ROXXII ASKED:

Q4tLiz: How’s holy pally rework treating you?

Very well, as I managed to top the healing meters some last raid night, and we’ll be making more Sarkareth attempts tonight. I don’t have a good feel for all of it yet — I haven’t had time to play enough — and I’m not attempting to run the whole build until I get a better feel for the rhythm of it. But certainly Glimmer is crazy powerful now, and the nerfs that went hand-in-hand with the spec revamp haven’t been as bad as I feared.

Go team Paladin!

RED ASKED:

Q4Liz: what are you playing on D4 Season 1? Are you changing classes from Necro?

I’m torn. Half of me wants to try something new, and half of me wants to keep exploring a class I know. I’m split between Necromancer (which I’m playing now), Druid, and Sorcerer.

There’s a good chance I’ll decide on the fly when the new season comes around this week.

ARCUBALLIS ASKED:

Is sharding in WoW broken beyond repair, or would they be able to restore it to its intended purpose? It was so great when it was first introduced and actually helped instead of harm. Like how smooth expansion launches got because people were broken up into smaller shards.

These days it seems to either not be present at all, so every time rift causes ridonkolous amounts of lag because there’s SO many people, or it randomly dumps you into an empty shard at the worst possible time when your old one wasn’t even crowded. Such as, when Fyrakk’s bar finally maxes out but then you’re suddenly transported to a horrific alternate reality where it’s back at 0.

I think sharding is great, and a must-have feature for the game. It’s made expansions more playable since it was added to the game.

But it’s a question of balance. How many people should be in any area at any time? Sometimes it feels off in one direction or another, and I think this is one of these cases. Maybe the tuning needs to be tweaked.

All-in-all, I think sharding has done us more good than harm, but there’s always room for improvement. I think when it isn’t working, it needs tuning.

SOEROAH ASKED:

Do you think future expansion mounts will adopt the dragonriding mount customisation system for recolours? As in instead of having multiple mounts that are recolours of one, you get the initial mount and can then get recolour options from the usual sources, picking which one you want in the journal or something like that

I sure as heck hope so, because that would be magical. But I feel like it’s unlikely to go beyond the Dragon Isles, since that’s where the stations we can tweak our dragon colors at. And making you collect mounts in different colors is kind of a staple of WoW loot at this point… I don’t think they’re going to ditch the idea entirely.

KALCHEUS ASKED:

Q4tQ why is my favorite activity on vacation is to look up things to do on my next vacation?

Nerds thrive on research. Still, gtfo and enjoy the beach, at least a little bit.

And that’s all for now, friends. While I know it’s a big ask, try to have a great Monday. Cory will be taking my place on Friday and we’ll be back to our regular schedule next week. Be sure to leave Cory plenty of questions about bears on Thursday to make him feel welcome and at home. I’ll see you back here next week.
