What would you like to see in a hypothetical “vacation” patch for World of Warcraft?

Dragonflight has been a nice change of pace from the more recent existential threats that Azeroth and our characters have had to face in prior expansions, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a vacation. The Primal Incarnates are still at large and wreaking havoc — even across timelines now — and everyone from the Djardin to the Infinite Dragonflight would tend to get in the way of a bonfire party on the beach.

Without the recent improved patch cadence it got me wondering, though: could we get a patch that’s just a vacation? Let’s call it 10.9.7: Tel’Abim Bound. What would it entail?

The first thing they would need to do is isolate it from the rest of the game; even though it’s a patch zone, we want it to be a place our characters can return to at times. So the model would be Darkmoon Island, but instead of being available once a month for a week it would be available during patch 10.9.7 and then would return at irregular intervals — perhaps every .7 patch would see it available, or only the final patch before another expansion, or maybe just two weeks every August.

While Darkmoon Island is our model, the stakes need to be a lot lower. For one thing, it’d be nice not to have eyeballs tracking us as we wander around, but any combat should be simulated — no wolves to kill, no death metal knights, no deathmatch zones. Instead, activities would be based around vacation staples such as barbecues, beach volleyball, and maybe even a surfing minigame. If Tel’Abim has a high enough peak we could even get a ski resort to enjoy.

Oh, and fishing. Lots and lots of fishing.

That’s not to say it’s all relaxation time. There could be still be low-stakes mysteries to solve and secrets to uncover while Tel’Abim Bound. And while there would still be achievements and collectibles to earn (swimsuit transmogs?) there would be an alternate source because it’s not a vacation if you have to struggle to get something.

So that’s my idea of a vacation patch and zone on Azeroth. What do you think? Would you like to see a calmer version of Darkmoon Island for our characters to enjoy, or would you rather vacations be treated more like micro-holidays throughout Azeroth? What sort of activities would your character want to do on vacation? And do you think your characters could actually relax, or would you be expecting a threat to arrive at any moment?
