Diablo 4 Season 2 promises to significantly increase the amount of experience players earn
It’s no secret that leveling in Diablo 4 right now can feel very slow to a lot of players — but it looks like that might change soon. On a recent livestream discussing plans for the upcoming Season 2 — the Season of Blood — Diablo 4 developers shared their plans to improve the leveling experience, making it more tolerable. In fact, according to the developers, the journey to level 100 should be “about 40% faster.”
First of all, the experience gained from killing monsters at level 50 and up will be significantly increased, with the amount rising as you keep leveling. Monsters will no longer be less powerful as a character gains levels either: in the highest difficulty levels, they should now match the current player level, starting from level 55 for World Tier 3, and 75 for World Tier 4.
Another big change is that the experience bonuses from your Elixirs, Incenses (which now grant a bonus to experience, and persist through death), and Seasonal Blessings are now multiplicative with your World Tier bonus and with the bonus from being in a party, which should make them far more potent. On top of that, you’ll be able to unlock Season Blessings faster, because the Smoldering Ashes currency will have lower level restrictions, letting you unlock buffs earlier to help you level faster.
The experience gained from the different activities in the game will be improved: experience from Whispers and the Helltide will be “increased substantially.” Also, Legion Events and World Bosses will become more frequent. The timer for Legion Events has been reduced from 30 minutes to 25 minutes, while the timer for World Bosses has been reduced from 6 hours to 3.5 hours.
Dungeons are getting more efficient to run as well: all Events should now have increased their monster density — meaning that you get to kill more things with less effort, which in turn means more experience per time spent. Dungeons will also have improved layouts, with less backtracking, which should make running them faster. Dungeon objectives in general should be easier to find and reach.
It remains to be seen whether those changes will add up to a significant enough improvement to the leveling experience, but we’re certainly hopeful. As it is right now, the time it takes to level to 100 is simply too high, so if it does get shaved off by 40%, the game will definitely be heading in the right direction.
