What kind of Player Housing do you think would fit World of Warcraft?

Player housing is a popular topic — we can’t go a week without someone bringing it up — and it’s also one of the few remaining icons of the players want this checklist, alongside the Dance Studio and dual-wielding pistols for Hunters. But just what kind of player housing would actually work for World of Warcraft? We saw with the Garrison — which wasn’t player housing, but were the closest WoW has gotten so far — that having so many ways to make money in one easy location meant that players didn’t get out into the cities and mingle.

This would also seem — to me, at least — to indicate that player housing can’t be too isolated from the big player hubs like Orgrimmar or Ironforge. As cool as it might be let players take over remote areas of Azeroth — for example, let players run various dungeons to unlock versions of those dungeons as a kind of Guild Housing — it would be pretty isolated from the cities we want players to see each other in. I mean, there are dungeons inside Orgrimmar and Stormwind, but that’s just two dungeons. [Ed’s note: And I wouldn’t want a home in either of them.]

Another possibility would literally be to let player or guild housing be a self contained part of the cities in question. Maybe a guildhall section of town takes over a certain patch of real estate, either one that’s currently underutilized or is next to but not within the city as it currently stands. Of course, this only works if we decide that guild housing instead of player housing is the way to go, giving guilds a prominent place on the city map. It could provide a nice benefit to players in a guild — and thus serve as what some would call a desperately needed bonus to guilds in general — but guild housing by its nature wouldn’t be as player focused and would lack some of the customization options so many players seem to crave.

But it’s tough (maybe impossible) to come up with an answer that would satisfy the player base. But that’s where you, the players, come in. How would you like to see player housing implemented in World of Warcraft? What type of player (or guild) housing do you think would fit the game the best?
