The Queue: I am that guy who forgets to take screenshots

I play a lot of games and I am always hitting moments I completely find compelling or fun or interesting. And then, once I am done playing them — and usually much later, hours or days later — I realize that I should have screenshotted or recorded it. By then, however, I’ve moved way past it, and going back would either be a process of hours of gameplay from an old save, or with games like Diablo 4, literally starting the whole game over again.

So anyway, I had a whole lot of Baldur’s Gate 3 stuff I was gonna talk about, but then I realized I forgot to take the SS of me talking to an angry bird, so here we are.

STRANGE THOMAS

The seahorse mount at Renown 10 is… unusual. I’m torn between, “This is meaningful and we’ll be doing underwater content in the future,” and “This is just a recolor that doesn’t mean anything, cf that sunshine kitten mount that related to nothing.”

Male seahorses give birth.

Look, that’s the only thing I really know about Seahorses.

TELWAR

As a child of the ’80s, and in particular a fan of the Larry Hama G.I. Joe comic series, ninja are much more palatable to me than pirates.

Incidentally, this is another reason I’m not that fond of rogues ‘Outlaw spec, the forced pirate theme.

The absolute best toy tie in comic that Marvel ever did, in the 1980’s, wasn’t G.I. Joe or even The Transformers. They were both good. But one book was far, far better.

It was ROM, SpaceknightAs a comic, it introduced concepts to Marvel like the Hybrid, a mutant offspring of the alien Dire Wraiths who appeared several times to fight both ROM and the X-Men, the Dire Wraiths themselves who became major villains for a while there, and the Neutralizer, the weapon ROM used to destroy or banish Dire Wraiths to limbo which was later reverse engineered by the Mutant gadgeteer Forge to steal Storm’s powers.

It was written by Bill Mantlo (creator of Rocket Raccoon) and drawn by Sal Buscema and later Steve freaking Ditko. ROM is the best space opera comic book of all time, and the best toy licensed comic ever published, despite the fact that ROM as a toy was not very successful. Mantlo wrote ROM as a major character who met, fought with and sometimes even befriended many of Marvel’s major characters at that time — ROM had run ins with the X-Men, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and Power Man and Iron Fist.

The comics Mantlo wrote were so good they made a toy almost no one ever bought into a comic that ran for six years, got a reboot in 2016 when Hasbro licensed the rights to IDW Publishing, and which is now being reprinted by Marvel in  2024.

And man, in those various ROM variant covers? Thanos is in deep crap because ROM don’t muck about, and being friendly with Death won’t help when the Neutralizer sends your big purple butt into Limbo.

BOVEN WHITEHOOF

I went to American University for my Master’s degree and man, while Stumpy was probably there (it was in 2000) he wasn’t famous yet. Still, I loved that whole area and while I understand that the refurb needs to happen, I’m sad to think about the trees that won’t make it.

VALENCEMAGI

Corned beef is really good.
I’m sorry I’m the only one here with the strength of will to come out and say it.

I also like Corned Beef. It can vary pretty greatly but up here in Canada there are a few different varieties and so far all the ones I’ve tried have been very good.

Oh, and Shuanna_2024 I think all ham is cured by necessity. So if there was some weird kind of meat product (sounded like potted meat to me) calling itself cured ham, that’s like saying that your cheese is caseicultured dairy, it’s true, because all cheese is the product of caseiculture.

What I’m saying is, badly prepared meat is badly prepared meat, and most canned corned beef is nowhere near the heights you can attain in a good deli.

Honestly it really worked with that mog you had in the screenshot.

Okay, that’s the Queue for today. By the way, Spaceknights are legally distinct from Jedi or Green Lanterns, but they do kind of fill the same ecological niche. Wander the galaxy/universe, stop bad stuff, vague Lensmen inspiration, all that kind of Jazz. Also, all of them can just casually ignore Wolverine, which is pretty cool.
