When does Overwatch 2 Season 10 begin? Season 10 arrives with Venture in mid-April!

When it begins, Overwatch 2 Season 10 is bringing a lot of new stuff into the game, including new DPS Hero Venture — though the season’s mostly highly anticipated addition may be everyone getting to play new Heroes without having to unlock them via the Battle Pass. But when does Overwatch 2 Season 10 begin? The date has shifted over time: initially, the in-game calendar slated the end date of Season 9 as April 9, but players noticed this was bumped back to April 16 in the in-game countdown. Assuming Season 9 rolls directly into Season 10 without a transition period, as all the previous Seasons did, as of now, it is assumed that Overwatch 2 Season 10 will start April 16, 2024.

The big highlight of Season 10 is Venture, a new DPS Hero. They — and yes, they are non-binary and use singular “they” pronouns — were initially showcased at BlizzCon 2023 as an archaeology-themed hero. They are a scientist, like Mei, but instead of building up, they tunnel underground. Their kit looks like it relies heavily on their ability to not only shake up their opponents, but also to use their drill to tunnel their way out of danger — or maybe straight into it. It’s tough to know exactly how they’ll play before we get our hands on them, but we’ll be able to do so in a brief window before the Season launches, March 28-30.

Speaking of getting our hands on the new Hero, for many players, the announcement that they will be able to unlock Venture and each forthcoming new Hero immediately, is a welcome relief. Having to complete several dozen Battle Pass levels or pony up real money for the Premium Battle Pass to unlock new Heroes in previous Seasons was an annoying task for many. The grind associated with the Battle Pass structure was never a forgiving one for more casual players, and the bimonthly microtransaction for a Premium Battle Pass they may not complete to unlock a Hero immediately on the new Seasons’ launches similarly left those players cold.

Speaking of microtransactions and casual players, a new Mythic shop is being added in Season 10, with new ways to earn, unlock, and outright purchase the older Mythic skins. We’ll be able to do this in whole or in part, so if you don’t enjoy a particular tint, you can skip it in favor of other skins or tints. We haven’t seen this in action yet, so there are still a lot of questions to be answered. We’ll also see a slight bump in the coins earned via the Battle Pass and Challenges, making this a pretty great Season to be a more casual player.

Also coming in Season 10 is the Clash map type showcased at BlizzCon, and the Hanamura-inspired Clash map, Hanaoka. This spiritual successor to fan favorite vanilla map Hanamura is just as gorgeous, and the map type is hopefully less of a drag to play. We’ll find out soon, when Season 10 comes to Overwatch 2 April 16.
