When does Diablo 3 Season 31 end?

Welcome (back) to Diablo 3 Season 31: Season of the Forbidden Archives! We are fully in the maintenance cycle of D3 seasons now, with the return of the Season 20 theme — the Forbidden Archives, aka Kanai’s Cube-o-Rama. And while this configuration is truly a delight, it’s a seasonal theme and not a permanent change. So when do we say goodbye to open cube adventures? We estimate Diablo 3 Season 30 will end on Sunday, July 7, 2024.

The Diablo team set expectations on future Seasons in its Season 29 preview post. Past Diablo 3 Season lengths have varied widely: Season 2’s two-month runtime seems like a blip, but Season 28 is the record holder for the longest run at 28 weeks and two days (about seven months). Moving forward, in addition to recycling D3 seasonal themes, the seasons will rotate roughly every three months.

The quarterly rotation began with Season 30’s 12 week (and three day) runtime, with five days between 30’s end and 31’s start. This cadence fits beautifully within their three month estimate and gives a good gap for the Diablo team to rotate seasonal themes. And given the delay in Diablo 4 Season 4’s start, we’ll have an even better transition from D3 nostalgia to D4 newness.

Frankly, there’s enough going on right now in the Diablo franchise that boredom seems unthinkable: the start of D3 Season 31, completion of D4 Season 3 transitioning into Season 4 (which doesn’t even have a theme yet!), Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 6, Diablo Immortal‘s Age of Unmaking arc, Battle Pass 25: Iron Gambit, and new Legions of Horror event. And that’s just Diablo; now add in other ARPGs, such as the recently-released Last Epoch, the anticipated Path of Exile 2 beta (although a delay was recently announced), and the Hades 2 technical test and early access launch, and you start wondering how much sleep you actually need every night. Phew!

For now, Season 31 is in progress and should have at least 10 more weeks of playtime ahead of it for you to fully unlock the Altar of Rites, complete the season’s journey, and hit those leaderboards.  You have until Sunday, July 7 to complete your remaining tasks by our estimate. See you in Sanctuary!
