Fashionistas rejoice! Class set tokens in The War Within legacy raids will be warbound for easy account-wide transmog

The latest development notes for The War Within, include an exciting update: class set tokens from legacy raids will now be Warbound, and that’s big news for transmog fans. In the expansion, your Warband includes every character on your account, and most things that they accomplish in the course of play will be credited to the Warband rather than the individual character — a change that  included an overhaul to how transmog appearances are collected, in which you’ll be able to collect appearances from any type of armor to use on your alts.

There will still be soulbound items that can’t be shared across your characters, but many items will now be warbound until equipped, meaning you can put them in your Warband bank for any character to use. And now, that will include the tokens used to collect older armor sets.

    • Developer’s note: Based on community feedback and to match our overall philosophy on transmog collection, class set tokens from legacy raids (Shadowlands and earlier) are now Warbound, allowing them to be transferred to alts in order to collect the transmog of your choice. For clarity, current expansion tier set tokens will remain unchanged from their previous status of bind on pickup, as they represent a large amount of power for the character who collects them.

Class set tokens initially threw a monkey wrench in The War Within’s transmog paradise, because the tokens remained soulbound, just as they are right now. You had to be one of the classes eligible for the token in order to activate it and turn it into, say, a robe — and only then would it be available for transmog. By making class set tokens warbound, Blizzard solves this problem neatly: you still need to be a relevant class in order to activate the token, but now you can transfer the token between characters before doing so.

It’s worth noting, however, that this change will only apply to legacy raids. For the purposes of The War Within, that means Shadowlands or earlier. The developers are concerned that making all class set tokens warbound would be detrimental, as they’re a large power gain for the character that collects them. Still, I personally think this is a great change. I can’t count the number of times I’ve gone into an old raid for transmog only to get a bunch of stuff, class set tokens especially, that I couldn’t use on the character I was playing at the time.

Now, depending on the size of your alt stable, potentially every token that drops will find a loving, fashionable home. And, really, isn’t the fashion what we’re all here for?
