Mists of Pandaria raids will be daily lockout during WoW Remix

WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria starts this week and an interesting change is happening on the live servers as well: Pandaria raids and World Bosses have switched to daily lockouts instead of the standard weekly lockout while the event is active during the next few months. The reason for this change is probably technical — they wanted Timerunners to not be limited to weekly runs as the raids are a part of the leveling experience, but were unable to limit the lockout change to just the ReMists experience. This ends up being a fortuitous change for collectors, though, as those still farming elusive mounts and other collectibles in Mists of Pandaria instances will have more opportunities to do so.

Note that not all difficulties have daily lockouts now. LFR is excluded, as are the 25-man versions of the raids besides Siege of Orgrimmar (which utilizes 10-30 player flex technology). Here’s the full list of Mists raids on a daily lockout:

  • Mogu’shan Vaults (Normal and Heroic 10-player)
  • Heart of Fear (Normal and Heroic 10-player)
  • Terrace of Endless Spring (Normal and Heroic 10-player)
  • Throne of Thunder (Normal and Heroic 10-player)
  • Siege of Orgrimmar (Normal and Heroic 10-30 player, Mythic 20-player )

The daily lockout extends to the World Bosses such as Nalak and the Sha of Fear, although “coins” like the Elder Charm of Good Fortune appear to still be limited to one attempt per week for any given boss. As a result those who are farming Galleon for its mount will have eight chances per week per character, not 14. This could be a bug, though, and may be changed in the future.

Where this will have the biggest impact is in the Siege of Orgrimmar, where Garrosh drops the much-desired Tusks of Mannoroth and the Kor’kron Juggernaut. While the skip to Garrosh added in patch 10.1.5 has made farming these items easier, with the low drop rate of the Tusks having more opportunities to farm them is going to make a lot of players happy. While many of the items can be purchased with Antique Bronze Bullion in ReMists, the live drops have a much higher Bronze cost and the increased number of chances to get them on the live server will mean players can focus spending their Bronze on the time-limited collectibles.

While the shortened lockout is scheduled to end alongside the ReMists event, it is feasible and desirable that this change could become permanent. Until and if that occurs though, players who wish to farm more frequently and not rely on Bronze should get themselves to Pandaria asap.
