Now live! Dr. Boom’s Incredible Inventions Hearthstone miniset adds the Gigantify keyword (because of course it does)

The next Hearthstone mini-set is going to be Dr. Boom’s Incredible Inventions, and it adds brand new cards to the Whizbang’s Workshop expansion, as well as the intriguing new Gigantify keyword, which seems appropriate for Dr. Boom’s explosive inventions. The mini-set is launching soon: Dr. Boom’s Incredible Inventions is now live!

As usual, this mini-set will include a total of 38 new cards, divided as such:

  • Four Legendary cards
  • One Epic card
  • 17 Rare cards
  • 16 Common cards

If you purchase the mini-set, you’ll earn a total of 72 cards, since you’ll get one copy of each of the four Legendaries plus two copies of each of the other 34 cards. The mini-set can be yours for either $15 if you get it from the Battle.net shop, or 2000 gold if you buy it in-game. However, you can also find those new cards simply by opening regular Whizbang’s Workshop packs — a mini-set’s cards are always added to that expansion’s “regular” set of cards.

There’s also a Golden version of the miniset, which can be bought for either $70 from the shop, or 10000 in-game gold. That version  has all-golden cards, and also includes a bonus Diamond Legendary — Puppetmaster Dorian.

New keyword: Gigantify

Whizbang’s Workshop introduced the Miniaturize keyword to the game. When played, minions that have it add shrunken versions of themselves to your hand — those Mini versions cost one mana, and have 1/1 stats, but keep the same effects as the original cards had.

As you might have guessed at this point, Gigantify kind of does the opposite: when played, minions that have Gigantify add a Gigantic version of themselves to your hand, which cost eight mana and have 8/8 stats, but keep any other effects from the original cards.

Strategies with Gigantify will be completely different than those with Miniaturize: rather than getting a cheap version of a powerful effect to repeat at an opportune time, Gigantify has you saving big minions to play later in the game — possibly with big effects that would make those minions far more powerful than the hefty cost of 8 mana would imply.

An example is Snuggle Teddy, a 2/4 Beast for Druids that costs three mana, and besides Gigantify, also has Elusive, Lifesteal, and Taunt. Those keywords don’t amount to much on a small 2/4 body — but when played on the 8 mana 8/8 Gigantic version, they’re bound to be considerably more impactful.

We’re hopeful that Dr. Boom’s Incredible Inventions gives the current metagame the shake-up it deserves, adding new strategies and deck types. Starting today, you can pick up the miniset and try them out yourself!
