The Queue: I remembered what day it is
Yeah, last week was not great.
A sensory deprivation chamber? Looks like someone never saw Altered States.
I went to London twice when I was in my 20’s. The second trip was a study program as part of a theatre minor that I have never once used in my life, that I took entirely because I wanted to go to England. And it was a great trip, a great experience and one of the most defining of my life.
During the trip I met a lot of people and learned a lot about myself. One thing I learned — I can spend 20 hours floating in the dark in lukewarm water and not even realize it’s been 20 hours until someone opens the door and asks me if I am okay.
Just something you don’t know about yourself until it happens.
My Youtube front page lately:
“Did you know the Mediterranean used to be a desert???
Here’s every video ever made on the subject! PS: They all use the same graphics from that one documentary about it that BBC made in 2003.”
Eons did a pretty good episode on the whole thing. I’ve always been fascinated by the Messinian Salinity Crisis.
QftQ: Are there any classes that you just can’t play or bring yourself to care about?
One of my players was asking about stuff for his PF2 Alchemist, and I realized when he was talking about it that that was one of those classes that really just didn’t appeal to me in the slightest. Like, I pointed out I had made characters of almost every class, but that and wizard I just didn’t touch.
Does it stand back and throw damage while wearing cloth? I don’t want to play it. Honestly, I have a real aversion to whatever version of a Wizard/Mage/Glass Cannon a game may have. This isn’t a value judgement, I just don’t like the archetype. I like classes that get up close and basically dare things to hit them.
Since I never finished Vault of the Incarnates, I was completely surprised by these new villains that showed up in 10.1, or why anybody cared, or how anyone was supposed to know about them. Then I finished that raid last week. “Ohhh…”
Yeah, and while I applaud the idea of the upcoming ‘story mode‘ for The War Within I don’t know if it will help with this problem. I think, honestly, that it’s a good idea to have some way for players who don’t like grouping up to get to see the story content of those raids, and I understand why they don’t want to do something drastic like allowing raids to scale down to 1 player (because those fights are designed for groups with a variety of abilities and after a while you simply can’t design a fight that way and have it work for everyone) but I do wonder if this is the right approach.
It’s hard for me to say with the whole thing not yet implemented, and at least it’s not a statue or a big chunk of jaw that I click on and see a cutscene.
Wowhead posted a pretty good article on all the Draenei NPCs that were present in the Heritage armor questline. They even got a few that I missed, and there are some seriously deep cuts there. Like who the heck remembered Elder Kuruti, the Lost One Chieftain who appeared once in a minor quest in BC and then never again? He’s there.
And to clear up any confusion, the Exarch Naielle we meet is explicitly the never-before-seen MU version of the character. She’s apparently been living in isolation in Terrokar Forest ever since the fall of Shattrath but has decided to rejoin society.
I’m really enjoying the Heritage quest — I’m about to do the Bloodmyst quests. It’s a really cool story about Draenei that makes me glad to have my Draenei Warrior to play through it.
I found the whole trip through the trauma of the Draenei who died during the Rise of the Horde era of the game to be pretty moving. It’s always been a big part of why I like playing one.
Olay. That’s the Queue for this week. See y’all next time.
