How to get the 20% XP and Reputation Buff during the World of Warcraft 20th Anniversary

The World of Warcraft 20th Anniversary arrives with patch 11.0.5 and runs until January 6, 2025, and as usual players will be able to get an experience and reputation buff for the length of the anniversary. In previous years all characters would receive the buff equal to the anniversary via an item in the Celebration Package. For the 20th Anniversary, however, they’re breaking up the bonus into two components:

  • There will be a global buff of 10% reputation and experience for all characters
  • There will be an additional buff of 10% reputation and experience provided by the daily quest Celebrate Good Fun!

The daily quest is provided by Yllana who is centrally located in the main pavilion of the Anniversary event and can be accepted by characters level 10 and higher. While the quest requires the completion of anniversary activities in order to finish, the resulting 12 hour buff does not diminish while offline so players won’t need to complete it daily to maintain the buff (unless of course they spend that much time playing). Based on the datamined information for the quest it appears everything — including gliding on the ice rink — will contribute, although as usual the more difficult the activity the greater percentage completion that will be acquired.

The combined 20% Anniversary Buff does stack with other modifiers including the Warband Mentor Leveling buff, so characters you’re trying to get to 80 ASAP could have up to a 45% experience boost — depending on the number of level 80 characters you already have. If you’re looking to rapidly increase your reputation you’ll want to see if an associated Timewalking event is happening during the anniversary as that both provides bonuses and the ability to quickly gain reputation via Timewalking Badge purchases. The Darkmoon Faire is also scheduled to run three times during the festivities (although the final of those three weeks will still be active when the anniversary ends) so that will provide its typical buff.
