Blizzard Watch Weekly: Dragon Age Watch Weekly

Dragon Age: Veilguard released yesterday and since that is one of her all-time most beloved franchises, I have a feeling I can type literally anything in this space and Liz will never know. She’s probably still in the character creator choosing which set of eyebrows is the best to communicate mild disapproval, which are exactly the eyebrows she’ll need to be wearing if she ever reads this intro.

Nailed it.

Let’s talk about what happened this week, and the stuff you need to know for next week.

What Happened This Week?

First, a reminder that the Day of the Dead in WoW began today and only runs through Sunday. It’s a really cool yet really short holiday. Especially of note are the Macabre Marionette pet, which is adorable and has excellent pet battling utility, and a Day of the Dead themed armor for the Cliffside Wylderdrake mount. There are also a few toys and transmogs to grab which you may have missed, because this holiday is so brief, and is so overshadowed by Hallow’s End.

Patch 11.0.7 hit the WoW PTR on Halloween, and prior to that we got a little teaser about the upcoming Siren Isle. A part of that teaser is the announcement that — ready or not — Plunderstorm is coming back a lot sooner than we thought (and if we’re being real, sooner than some of us would like). Also announced this week were the Trading Post rewards for the month of November.

We talked this week a bit about how the leveling in Diablo 4 has changed for the better. Plus, the Overwatch 2 dev team has decided to roll out a test to see how a 6v6 mode might look in the sequel, which will start during season 14.

What’s Happening Next Week (and beyond)

On the holidays front, now is the time to wrap up all the Halloween-y events for this year — they all start rolling off in the coming week. The Anniversary celebration continues for another two months, and even after a buff to how fast players can earn Bronze Celebration Tokens, it’s still a lot to earn to get everything. so we worked up a primer on how to earn Bronze Celebration Tokens the quickest.

This week we’re eagerly awaiting the release of the next Hearthstone expansion, The Great Beyond, which features a new mechanic where you get to build a spaceship and a new minion type, Draenei.

Looking a bit further into the future, we’re anticipating the arrival of the next set of Dungeons and Dragons manuals in two weeks, but all the talk from the suits about AI and all that has left us a little cold.

Podcasts

I told you we were all in on Dragon Age — they even discussed it this week on Lore Watch. During the main podcast, they discussed the ninety human dollar WoW mount, plus the (freaking adorable!) charity pet bundle that was overshadowed by it just a wee tad bit.

Reminders, to-dos, and ICYMIs

Here’s a big reminder not only for US residents, but as a reminder to our worldwide friends who look to us for timings on things like patch releases: most of the USA is going to “fall back” their clocks an hour on Sunday as Daylight Saving Time ends until March. Even if you’re in an area which doesn’t shift their entire lives twice a year to account for 19th century farmers or whatever, expect things to be a little wonky time-wise around here.

Another reminder to some, not all: this is the time to order an Advent calendar if you haven’t already. We usually grab the Lego City one for the fam at large, and I always have a wrenching decision whether I want treats or skincare. Or maybe more Lego.

If you’re not playing Dragon Age this weekend, we have a weekly column of gaming suggestions you might want to check out. First on the list, surprising no one: Dragon Age.

Lastly, yes, this whole post was written using Spirit City: Lofi Sessions, which is now such a ubiquitous productivity tool around the Blizzard Watch office we wrote it its own love letter. Thanks for all the words, Spirit City.
