In an unexpected crossover, the next Hearthstone miniset is Heroes of StarCraft, coming January 21
For its next miniset, Hearthstone is getting a crossover with StarCraft! Aptly named Heroes of StarCraft, this miniset for the The Great Dark Beyond expansion will be the second time Hearthstone dips into other Blizzard franchises than Warcraft — the first had been Diablo — and it will be available in just a week, in January 21.
This will be the biggest miniset Hearthstone has ever released, with 49 cards instead of the usual 38 we’ve gotten in other minisets — that’s four Legendaries, one Epic, 20 Rares, and 24 Commons. The three StarCraft factions will be present in the miniset, in a mechanic that feels very similar to the three gangs from Mean Streets of Gadgetzan: each faction will be available to a few specific classes, and those faction cards will all be “multi-class” cards, playable by all of them.
- The Zerg are focused on cheap, small minions, tokens, and direct damage, for very aggressive strategies.
- Demon Hunter, Death Knight, Hunter, and Warlock are the classes aligned under the Zerg banner, and their hero card is Kerrigan.
- The Protoss will summon big minions, but will use their summoning devices to cheat them out sooner than expected.
- Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue will wield the powers of the Protoss, with Artanis as their hero card.
- The Terrans will be able to build and launch Battleships — called Battlecruisers for them, and featuring the Mech minion-type, unlike other Battleships — multiple times per game, with lots of synergy.
- Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior are representing the Terrans in Hearthstone, led by Raynor as their hero card.
In total, each class will have three new cards, and each of the three StarCraft factions will have five multi-class cards. There’s also Grunty, the Terran Armored Murloc, as a Neutral Legendary card, to round up the set.
This miniset comes in normal and Golden versions, and this time you can also obtain just a single faction rather than the whole set, if you want — those come with one copy of the Legendary for that faction, plus two copies of the five multi-class cards for that faction and two copies of each of the three class cards for the classes that compose that faction. No matter which version you choose, you can acquire it with either money or in-game gold:
- The normal version costs 2,500 gold or $20
- An individual faction from the normal version can be obtained for 1,200 gold or $10
- The golden version costs 12,000 gold or $80, and also includes a Diamond version of Grunty as a bonus
Heroes of StarCraft is really close now, and we’ll be getting card reveals over the next few days — you’ll be able to see them on the card library, and you can already find some of the new cards on the official blog. The mini-set launches January 21.
