Here are some video game-themed ugly sweaters to add to your holiday wish list

Ugly sweaters can be a way to show off your interests, look stylish, and be incredibly cozy all at once — here is a selection of knitwear from the world of gaming that you’ll want to add to your holiday wish list (or buy for that special someone).

The holiday apparel conversation in the Blizzardwatch break room started with a Diablo 4 Mephisto sweater depicting the bloodied wolf form of the Lord of Hatred. If you’re enjoying Vessel of Hatred but you’re looking for a cozy jumper without a snarling skull-faced canine, then there is also a red and black Lilith option.

The only other knit item in the Blizzard store at the moment is this cutesy Overwatch heroes sweater, which feels like a huge missed opportunity. Any number of characters from the Warcraft universe would look great in stitches. There are days where I use my Manastorm Duplicator on cooldown, so I’d like to see Millhouse covered in holiday baubles shouting “I’m gonna light you up, sweet cheeks!”

You’ve already heard from some of our staff that Spirit City: Lofi Sessions is an enjoyable way to boost your productivity through a video game. Now you can take that energy with you with four different options  — you can show off your favorite spirit buddy, or go with a subtle collage of all of them that could just about pass for a normal winter sweater.

If instead you’re looking to advertise your love for a well-known franchise, you can always go with a gaudy sweater that even your Great Aunt Mabel will understand. At this point I’ve been slinging Pokeballs for nearly three decades, so I might just add this extremely busy number featuring four of the most recognizable Pokemon to my wish list. If the holiday season makes you nostalgic for the simpler times of hanging around the arcade, perhaps a Winter Veil tree made out of a Pac-Man map would be the perfect sweater adornment.

Finally, there’s the rare overlap of a great joke intertwined with an ugly sweater. If you used to be an adventurer until you took an arrow in the knee but would still like to show off a Skyrim jumper at your holiday gathering, nothing beats this one — complete with a “Fa la la la la, la fus do rah”.

Buyer beware: there aren’t many holiday letdowns worse than opening your newly arrived cozy sweater to find that you’ve purchased a screen-printed sweatshirt. There isn’t a surefire way to avoid such tragedy, but keeping an eye on reviews can be helpful. You can also look for pictures of each sweater in action to ensure that it isn’t made of spandex. And if a price point seems too good to be true, it probably is — an actual knit sweater will likely run you $50-75 US or more.

You’ll have to wait until December 19th to don your Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater, but it’s never to early to get ahead of the curve and order some of these festive threads and spend the winter in style.
