The Queue: Is winter over?

Last week I was excited for spring, and this week the temperatures have been wonderful! We’ve gotten into the above-freezing area a few times and it has felt so nice.
However, as a Canadian who lives where I do, I know that a second or third winter can always be lurking around the corner. I’m just hoping that Arthas is too busy with his upcoming trip to Warcraft Rumble to freeze everything around me again.
While I optimistically break out the Hawaiian shirts, it’s time for — The Queue!
I’ve been hoping that once we get to Midnight we’ll be in the era of BFA style Old Soldier cinematics – feels like the Saga is a good excuse to go hard with rendered cinematics
I’ve also been hoping that TLT opens with the shock value of Algalon pleading our case to the Titans only for them to destroy him for being ‘corrupted’ by the mortals
Just now, I put the two together and I really wanna see that cinematic in Old Soldier level graphics
And THEN I made it cooler and imagined an Argus-style situation where after that cinematic we spend the TLT expansion with Algalon’s ‘corpse’ in the sky as an ever-present constellation
I would love to see more Blizzard cinematics that helped to tell the story of an expansion alongside the expansion itself. Old Soldier was such a great companion piece to Battle for Azeroth that I was super surprised when we didn’t see more of it in Shadowlands and Dragonflight.
Of course, cinematics like Old Soldier aren’t cheap, and that’s the biggest issue I think. With the state of the gaming industry at large being one of mass layoffs across so many companies no matter what level of success we see — spending extra money on art for art’s sake is less appealing to the people in charge of budgets.
Just look at the reporting coming out in the wake of Arcane. While the show was a success with both audiences and critics (for good reason) it reportedly didn’t translate into many more people playing League of Legends (for good reason.) So pulling the trigger on cinematic content that doesn’t technically ‘need’ to exist can be hard.
I’d love for all of the rumored extra projects around Blizzard properties to come out, like the Diablo Netflix series! Remember that? Man, I was so sure we’d be on season 4 of that by now.
I don’t know if things are going to change around Blizzard enough now that they’re part of Microsoft to bring those back, maybe we’ll see more of a shift towards building up and supporting the long-running games that have proven their worth, since releasing a new game can be such a gamble these days.
At least the in-game cinematics have gotten better with every expansion!
qftq: what change in wow is so common now that when it doesn’t happen you get confused?
I just was on the siren island and a mob was grey, it took me a second to realize that it meant that the mob was tagged by someone else.
So many things!
Whenever there’s a new quest point to start out the week’s reset and everyone crowds around it on their most giantest Long Boi mounts because the developers forgot to make it an auto-dismount zone.
When I can’t interact with a quest object in shapeshift form and it doesn’t just automatically make me a Troll again.
Ok maybe that’s only two things, but I’m sure there are more. They just don’t stand out unless I’m actively experiencing them!
Does having to toggle on auto-loot every time I make a new character count? Why twenty years in is that still a thing?!
Q4tQ What should I do in WoW on Monday before the patch drops?
I’ve heard that spending a day smashing your face into the brick wall of Zekvir ?? can be a fun(terrible) way to spend the day! At the end you might even have a shiny void theme for your gyrocopter!
Unless you have it already, in which case have you considered finding a nice vista and parking your character there while you read some poetry?
Oh, you wanted productive things to do? I dunno, spend some Undercoins before the reset? Maybe run a couple of the dungeons that are going to be in Season 2 again to refresh your memory? Since they’re changing a bunch of things in M+ maybe this is the season you get your fancy mount!
Q4tQ: What’s your regular snack? The one you could have some any time. Mine’s Chili Cheese Fritos, I could pop a few in almost any time of day.
There are too many to list! I could always eat something.
Top three contenders: Reese peanut butter anything, Doritos Jalapeno and Cheddar chips, and onion rings. All of which are super healthy! At least the peanut butter cups have peanut butter in them…
From Bluesky: What’s the funniest character name you’ve ever seen?
The best name that has always stuck with me is a Guardian Druid I saw once named BearyAllen, who every time he hit Stampeding Roar had a macro that would broadcast the speech from the Flash TV show where he talks about being the fastest man alive, only with bear in place of man.
Today’s Bacardi is perturbed that I ruined his cozy blanket fort to get this picture of him. I don’t even know why he needs the cozy blanket fort, it’s above freezing for most of the day now! I’m sure he’ll give you some good luck as you head into the Undermine patch, but you might need to boop carefully — those claws are ready and waiting for blood.
