How to easily collect the Nerub-ar Palace LFR set appearances

While Season 2 of The War Within has brought us a Goblin mine cart full of new fashions to show off, it also unlocked a quick and easy path to collecting the tier sets from last season’s Nerub-ar Palace raid. Whether you just need one or two pieces to complete an ensemble or you’ve got a fresh max-level alt that needs an entire set, now it a great time to fill out your Khaz Algar wardrobe.

The key to obtaining these appearances is the Matrix Catalyst, which converts certain high-level gear into a set piece for your class. Located in the heart of Dornogal just across from the portal to Undermine, you can use this device to convert high-level items into a tier piece appropriate to your class.

The new Liberation of Undermine raid comes with its own Revival Catalyst currency, Essence of Kaja’mite. Every two weeks, each of your characters automatically receives one essence. If you’re new to using the catalyst, you don’t need to do anything to obtain the charges. In addition, the process of figuring out which gear can be upgraded is very straightforward.

Last season’s currency, Harmonized Silk, became obsolete when Season 2 hit the servers, and so you essentially have an infinite amount of it to catalyze to your heart’s content. The tricky part is finding gear that works, because virtually every reward in The War Within has been upgraded to the Season 2 track and will catalyze into the Liberation of Undermine set.

Luckily, there’s one place that’s stuck in just the right time for our needs: Siren Isle. The random gear drops are Warbound Veteran gear on the Season 1 track, and catalyze into the Nerub-ar Palace LFR tier set pieces. To make things even easier, one of the NPCs at base camp offers appropriate items in every slot in exchange for the island’s currency, Flame-Blessed Iron. You’ll need just shy of 1,200 iron for a full set of gear, which should take less than an hour of completing quests and hunting rare mobs to collect.

As usual, there is a catch — out of the six different color variants of the Nerub-ar Palace looks (including two PVP recolors), only the LFR version is obtained this easily. You’ll need to scour Khaz Algar to find other rewards that are frozen in Season 1 but at a slightly higher item level to obtain the other raid tier appearances. The only one that I’ve found so far is the Champion 1/8 i597 piece of gear that drops from the Earthen Landlubber’s Cache, the reward for completing the Siren Isle weekly storm phase quest. This will catalyze into a Normal difficulty appearance, although with only one random drop per week, you’ll be better off heading into the raid itself (or waiting until The Last Titan to farm the items directly).

If you’ve been ignoring the Siren Isle content, here’s your excuse to go and check out the area. If you’ve already spent some time there, you can work on rounding out your mount and pet collection while you work on adding last season’s looks to your favorites list.
