Who do you think will be the final boss of the War Within saga?
Now that we are starting to get major details about the grand finale of The War Within, the time is ripe to begin speculating on who will serve as the main antagonists for the next expansion, Midnight, as well as the finale of the three-part Worldsoul Saga, The Last Titan. If you’re avoiding any info at all concerning the next patch, the be warned: there will be spoilers for the broad strokes of the patch 11.2 raid, Manaforge Omega.
In next month’s Ghost of K’aresh adventure, we’ll be heading to that unfortunate and shattered planet to ultimately do battle with a ridiculously enormous void lord in the form of Dimensius himself. Is that the last we will see of this gigantic malevolent entity bent on consuming all of existence? Or will we simply drive him away, only to have to vanquish him once and for all in an ultimate showdown for Azeroth’s fate?
It seems pretty unlikely that we’d see a repeat of an end-of-expansion boss so quickly, but what about the other dark purple threat to Azeroth’s well-being? Xal’atath served as the antagonist for much of The War Within, but I feel like we will also see quite a bit of her in the next chapter, Midnight. It wouldn’t add up for her to take a backseat in such a void-focused expansion, only to immediately re-emerge as the main threat to the universe.
When contemplating one’s enemies, it is unwise to neglect those that are off-screen biding their time. Sargeras is a fallen Titan with one heck of a grudge against our planet. After one good stab, he was imprisoned by the remainder of the Pantheon with Illidan Stormrage assigned as jailer. Might Sargeras somehow slip through Illidan’s rage-clenched fingers in order to take final revenge against his captors and, ultimately, Azeroth? I don’t think we’ve heard the last of Sargeras, but I also doubt that he’ll end up being our final antagonist.
Another powerful enemy who has gotten the better of our heroes time and time again is Iridikron. As an ancient elemental dragon, the Incarnate of Earth certainly is high enough on the power rankings to be an end-of-expansion bad guy. He is also one cunning pile of rocks, as he seems to always be five or six steps ahead of his adversaries. Could it be that Iridikron’s plan to lure the Pantheon back to Azeroth will succeed in The Last Titan, and he will seek to exact his revenge with only us to stop him?
My official prediction takes into account the little that we know of the expansion that will cap the Worldsoul Saga from its original announcement. We know that the Titans will return, that we will uncover a conspiracy, and perhaps even question their motives and narrative entirely. We will even (finally) understand the true nature of Azeroth herself. The breadcrumbs of these revelations have already begun, with many quests and conversations in The War Within pointing towards shadowy ulterior motives for the Titans and Keepers.
What if The Last Titan sees the Pantheon turn fully heel? Could the final raid of the Worldsoul Saga be on the Seat of the Pantheon itself, or could there perhaps be a sort of Titan civil war? Will we need to face off against the Titan’s leader, Amun’thul, or even the entire lineup, in the climactic ultimate fight? The finale of this triplet of expansions is still a ways off, but it’s never too early to speculate on who the end boss will be. What’s your prediction for the ultimate antagonist of the Worldsoul Saga?
