How do you feel about revisiting old zones in Midnight?

Ever since the announcement of the Worldsoul Saga at BlizzCon 2023, we have known that a major part of the upcoming Midnight expansion will be revisiting the old world. Two of the four starting zones are places we have quested before: Eversong Woods and Zul’Aman will be very familiar to players who have been adventuring on Azeroth for any significant amount of time. This begs the question: how do you feel about returning to previously explored lands, rather than seeking out entirely new ones?

I am personally looking forward to playing through both of these zones quite a bit, based on what we have seen and heard so far. I would be more hesitant if it seemed like we would be dropped into the 2007 version of Eversong Woods with a few changes to the landscape and some new quest lines. Instead, Midnight promises a complete re-imagining of the zone. I can’t wait to see how the developers deal with 16 years of time passing in-game, in addition to the activity that is sure to result from the armies of darkness marching on the Sunwell.

For Zul’Aman, it turns out that we had previously only explored a tiny piece of the forest Troll lands. I am hoping for a good balance between updates to the temple area and its cast of characters and a new arboreal zone that has that distinct Amani feel.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy the thrill of new locations being added to World of Warcraft. While we aren’t getting an entire continent added to the world map in Midnight, there will still be two zones at launch that we’ll be setting foot into for the first time. I am excited to pick up the story of the Haranir as we travel to Harandar, not to mention the high cuteness-per-square-kilometer index I am expecting from such a lush-looking zone. I feel the least amount of enthusiasm towards Voidstorm, but I am hopeful that it will feel different enough from K’aresh that I won’t mind being immersed in a hostile purple environment again so soon.

The vibes I am getting from the Legion:Remix playerbase are mostly quite positive, so perhaps World of Warcraft players are in general more accepting of returning to previously explored areas than your typical gamer. We’ll just have to wait a few more months until the launch of Midnight to see how revisiting the Eastern Kingdoms fares on the list of most loved and hated player experiences. Are you looking forward to heading back to Quel’thalas, or would you rather be sailing towards lands entirely unknown?
