Decor Duel is a new Prop Hunt mode coming to WoW in patch 12.0.5

With all this Player Housing stuff finally coming to WoW, adding a Prop Hunt mode where the player can become the decor is an obvious next step. The WoW development team must have thought so too, because they announced Decor Duel as an addition for patch 12.0.5.

Prop Hunt is an alternate game mode based on hide and seek which is popular in many games, including Overwatch 2. We know from the State of Azeroth presentation that there will be two teams of 5: one team of “hiders” and another of “seekers.” While we can’t be sure of all the details, in Prop Hunt modes, the hiding team will have a short period of time to get in position and choose their prop. Usually they have a button to rotate through props that might — or might not — occur on the map they’re playing before the seekers get a chance to find them. In the presentation, in the map of Silvermoon City, we saw a filigree gold lantern, a fancy vase, a red winged chaise lounge, and a charcuterie board trying to be inconspicuous.

Usually, the hiding team will occasionally shout or do something else to betray their whereabouts, as a way to spice it up. The seekers will usually have some kind of AOE or cone attack to tag the prop players. The round goes until the seekers win by finding all the props, or the props successfully elude them for a specific amount of time.

Prop Hunts are usually round-based so that, just in case either the finding or hiding is easier in your particular game, the ability to swap for a best-of-odd-number will hopefully be enough to even the score and feel fair.

We aren’t sure yet what the rewards might be, but it’s safe to guess at least some of them will be Player Housing decor items. Maybe if you win, you’ll get the item you were disguised to be? Maybe a currency? We could all use more currencies in WoW, right? But regardless of reward, it should be a fun little diversion, and isn’t that the true reason to play?
