Seven mounts infused with the Light to ride into Midnight with style

The World of Warcraft clock is about to strike Midnight, and the heroes of Azeroth are being summoned to defend their world against the encroaching darkness — better mount up on an appropriately yellow and glowing steed before riding into battle.

While there are (by my most recent research) over 1,600 mounts available to collect in game, there are some that are obvious Light-infused home runs for summoning before fending off shadowy invaders. Anything obtainable exclusively by a Paladin or Priest is almost certainly going to be spot-on appropriate for Sunwell defending.

There are also plenty of spectacularly difficult to obtain mounts that fit the bill. If you’ve got half a million gold burning a hole in your backpack, go ahead and splurge on a Lightforged Warframe. If you want to embrace the creepy skull-adorned side of the Light and have several dozen spare hours before Midnight launches, feel free to grind out the many collectibles required to earn your very own golden hand chariot.

Today we’ll be focusing on a few of the more easily obtainable and less over-the-top mounts for players who may not wield the Light but still want to arrive at Silvermoon City in clear opposition to Team Void. These will range from easy to medium on the difficulty and time commitment scales, but along with the proper transmog set they are a sure way to guarantee that all eyes will be on your complete ensemble when you arrive at the Sunwell.

Evening Sun Dreamsaber — This is a fantastically lemon chiffon kitty with wooden armor and flowing yellow accents. While it is a ground mount, it certainly strikes a bold silhouette while you are waiting for battle to begin. You can earn one in the Emerald Dream as a random drop from caches resulting from planting Gigantic Dreamseeds, or once you reach rank 18 on the Dream Wardens renown track you can pick one up for a single Seedbloom.

Renewed Magmammoth — If you want to tower above your fellow heroes on their shiny Light-horses, definitely pick up this glowing pachyderm. With flowing jonquil accents and splashes along a stylishly armored body, you’ll be ready to stomp any apparitions that come out of Xal’atath’s portals. Grab one by defeating enough Flame Lieutenants during Dreamsurges across the Dragon Isles to collect 20 Charred Elemental Remains.

Gilded Prowler — There are plenty of Light-adjacent mounts out of Bastion in the Shadowlands, and this winged big cat might be my favorite. The calamansi armor strikes a subtle but powerful opposition to the darkness, and the fact that it’s a flying lion certainly counts for something. You’ll need to fork over a modest amount of gold after becoming exalted with The Ascended.

Argent Hippogryph — Now we’re starting to get into some subtle championing of the Light. If you’re looking to roll into Midnight on a feathery steed but not blind your guildmates with yellow laser beams, try this mythical antlered mount. At first glance it might seem like a fairly normal hippogryph, but the glowing yellow eyes allow for you to insert your own backstory about its egg incubating in the warm Naaru-infused aura of the Sunwell itself. You’ll need to head to the Argent Tournament in Icecrown and earn 150 Champion’s Seals, which should only take a few days of experiencing what daily quests were like several decades ago.

Bulbous Necroray — For players who want to keep a mean-looking edge to their overall appearance while still passing as Light-supporting, try a flying fungal ray with glowing saffron pustules. It can be contained in an Oozing Necroray Egg, which has a small chance to drop from the Tribute chest awarded for aiding Maldraxxus.

Salvaged Goblin Gazillionaire’s Flaying Machine — Okay, this one is for all the Goblins out there who meant to find a glowing golden steed for Midnight’s launch, forgot, panicked, slapped a coat of yellow paint on the nearest mechanical flying machine, and called it a day. If that sounds like your character, then head to Undermine and start shoveling. There’s a small chance for this chartreuse menace to drop from the Gallagio Garbage that spawns when a S.C.R.A.P. job is fully complete.

Yellow Qiraji Battle Tank — Here’s a bonus one just for the screenshots, because you won’t be able to summon this tartrazine insectoid mount anywhere except inside the two Ahn’Qiraj raids in southern Silithus. You’ll almost certainly acquire the drop sometime during a single run of the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj along with the red, blue, and green variants. They all count towards the new 600 mount achievement, Insurmountable Collection, and you’ll likely pick up some cool (although low-res) old-school transmog. Let’s take a moment to all be extremely thankful that Blizzard nixed mounts that can only be summoned in a very specific place over 20 years ago.
