When is the WoW patch 12.0.5 release date? Our best guess is early May!

World of Warcraft’s newest expansion, Midnight, just launched on March 2, 2026, but Blizzard is not content to bask in the success of what is, by all accounts, a well-received expansion launch, and the developers are already hard at work on patch 12.0.5. We already knew from the WoW 2026 roadmap that we could expect patch 12.0.5 early in the year with a few new features, but only two weeks into the expansion, the patch is already headed to the PTR — and with more  content than we expected. But the big question is: when is the WoW patch 12.0.5 release date? If Midnight follows the same patch cadence as The War Within (which seems likely), the patch 12.0.5 release date likely on or around May 5, 2026.

Now let’s take a look at what’s actually in WoW patch 12.0.5.

What’s in WoW patch 12.0.5?

Patch 12.0.5 is scheduled to launch with a variety of content, from events focused on gaining player power by enhancing gear (and making it easier to obtain those sought-after raid or dungeon pieces) to strictly-for-fun modes that yield cosmetics, decor, toys, and more. Here are the patch highlights:

  • Void Assaults are the headlining feature, with the forces of the Void jockeying for power, prestige, and position in their dog-eat-dog hierarchy. These will take place in Eversong Woods and Zul’Aman on a weekly rotation and take the form of Void Strikes and Void Incursions. Void Strikes will occur continuously in the chosen zone throughout the week, and once enough of them are defeated, they’ll appear at a different spot to try their luck there. Void Incursions are larger-scale invasions that appear after enough Void Strikes are beaten, and will require larger groups of Azeroth’s heroes to tackle them.
  • Decor Duel is the other mode we knew about from the roadmap; it’s a “prop hunt” style mode, where players will compete in teams in Silvermoon City to take turns either hiding out as perfectly normal decor, or seeking out the other team trying to do the same. This bite-sized event rewards a mount, toys, and — what else? — decor for player housing.
  • Ritual Sites are another form of open-world event, on the same level of difficulty as Delves or Prey — in fact, they’ll even open up additional slots in the same Great Vault row. In these events, you’ll take on challenging one-to-five player instances to disrupt rituals meant to empower the Twilight’s Blade cult or power-hungry Naga; as you choose to take on greater challenges, you’ll receive greater rewards, including a currency that can be used to purchase Champion and Hero tier gear.
  • Abyss Anglers. Is fishing these days seeming a little… shallow? Do you wish you could dive deeper? If so, you might want to check out the other new activity included in 12.0.5: Abyss Anglers. Off the coast of Zul’Aman, you’ll team up and suit up to spearfish as many schools of exotic fish as you can wrangle, unlocking fishing rewards and upgrades to your diving gear, letting you delve into the deepest depths where the greatest treasures await. Just try not to think about some of the horrible things that have lurked in Azeroth’s seas.
  • The Voidforge. Lastly, our pal Decimus from the Voidstorm is firing up his Voidforge, and it’s got plenty of benefits for you if you like group content. Nebulous Voidcores are available immediately and akin to the old loot coin bonus rolls (you know, the ones we got rid of for the Great Vault), except this time if you keep using them on the same raid boss or dungeon, you’ll gradually whittle down the pool of contents until you get the one you want — no repeats! Meanwhile, after you help him build a new Nilhammer, Decimus will reward you with a chance to get Ascendant Voidcores, which will empower fully-upgraded Hero and Myth pieces even further, like the upgrade track expansions of Turbo Boosts we’ve seen in recent expansions.

And that’s just the stuff Blizzard has given us details about in the 12.0.5 patch notes. While these are the highlights, there’s even more in the full update notes for the patch, including updates to the housing UI (you can finally link furniture from the catalog in chat), further updates to the default user interface we’re all learning to love or at least live with, more upgrades for the transmog system (including new Situations — now you can have an outfit for when it rains! — and a way to macro outfit changes), plus an intriguing option for Dracthyr Evokers to be like the rest of their kin and stay in Visage form during combat, except when using spells that utilize their “draconic physique,” changing back to their Visage afterwards. Midnight clearly intents to keep the “new stuff” train rolling right out of the gate!

The PTR for Midnight patch 12.0.5 is coming out soon, but we expect the patch to launch on live realms in May. When we have an official release date, we’ll update this post to let you know.
