Sheath your one-handed weapons on your back in Midnight’s patch 12.0.5

If you’ve ever wanted to strap your one-handed sword to your World of Warcraft character’s back, then great news — a new dropdown menu in the transmog interface coming in Midnight’s patch 12.0.5 will allow us to do just that (and more!)

Ever since I acquired my Quickening Blade of the Prince from the original Magister’s Terrace, I have kept it in my weapon transmog rotation because it’s one of the few one-handed swords that my Mage can wear Cloud Strife-style. There’s something that just hits a bit different about a spellcaster with a magical sword so big that they have to carry it around on their back, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.

Having more weapon sheathing options has been a low-priority ask from the community for a long time, with the feasibility increasing with the addition of the Monk class and their proclivity to tumbling around with two smaller weapons on their backs. When patch 12.0.5 goes live, we’ll be able to choose where our one-handed armaments are displayed: the default for that item, on our back, or on our hip.

This new option won’t extend to two-handed weapons right now, so you won’t be able to run around Silithus as a Fury Warrior dragging enormous blades from your belt and carving patterns into the sand. You will, however, be able to choose the sheathing location separately for each item you dual-wield, opening up some interesting lopsided transmog possibilities.

The fact that these small tweaks and features are still being added after the major Midnight transmog changes makes me quite happy. If I had to pick the next feature to be added, it might be the ability to adjust the apparent size of our weapons in the same way that Player Housing decor can be scaled. Let me carry around an enormous dagger on my back. Let me display my pocket-sized Thunderfury for formal occasions.

Sheathing customization isn’t live yet, so we’ll update this article with the final details when patch 12.0.5 drops this spring. Will you take advantage of this new feature and start attaching your axes to your back? What other transmog tweaks and abilities would you like to see rolled out next?
