If you could add any animal as a mount in World of Warcraft, which would you choose?
We are truly blessed by the enormous variety of mounts in World of Warcraft, from nearly endless dragons to disembodied hands to Goblin-made mech suits to extremely good boys — but I can’t help but pine for even more types of noble steeds to ferry my characters around Azeroth.
One that’s been towards the top of my list for two decades is the noble giraffe. Ever since I came across one of these towering ungulates in the Barrens, I have been willing to do whatever it takes to throw a saddle on one and gallop into the Crossroads in style. As of 2026, we still do not have the ability to ride these majestic tall boys.
For a long time I thought the height of a giraffe mount model might be a factor in its absence from the World of Warcraft menagerie, but with brutosaurs being more common in Silvermoon that pigeons in Earth’s big cities, we can safely say that size couldn’t possibly be the reason why we are still giraffe-less.
I continue to hold out hope for a long-necked savanna-walker to ferry me around, and my optimism has doubled with the newest Hearthstone card set release. One of the Hunter cards is Talya Earthstrider, a Night Elf leading a cavalry of beasts from giraffeback. Surely this means that we will gain the ability to mount up just like Talya any time now.
If I had to pick a second steed for my wish list, I would say that I’m fairly shocked that we don’t yet have the ability to cruise the waters of Azeroth while strapped to a shark. While the aquatic-only mount list is rather small compared to the full catalog, simply adding the default shark model to the next batch of swimming-only mounts would be a slam dunk.
So which category of creature would you pick as the next to be added to the in-game riding stables? Have you been disappointed each new patch that passes by without your desired steed, or have you already been lucky enough to see your dream mount added to World of Warcraft?
