Everything we know about the upcoming Sporefall raid in 12.0.7

Grab your mushroom-chopping axe, because we’re headed to Harandar for the first mid-season World of Warcraft raid in several expansions. Midnight’s upcoming patch 12.0.7 includes Sporefall, a single-boss instance with some unique features and new rewards.

It seems the Fungarians have been successful in their efforts to create the next big phenom to grace the gladiatorial gauntlet that is The Grudge Pit, because Rotmire looks like a mushroom that’s been gulping protein powder and hitting the gym in preparation for an upcoming action movie. The fight isn’t overly complex, but Rotmire’s ability to heal and empower his fungal minions while infecting the raid with various pustules should prove challenging enough for raid groups of all skill levels.

All four difficulties (Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic) will go live at the same time when patch 12.0.7 drops around June 16. One of the most interesting aspects of Sporefall is an experiment players have been requesting for some time: a flex option for Mythic difficulty. For several expansions, the highest raid difficulty has required exactly 20 players. This time around you’ll be able to bring anywhere from 15 to 25 heroes, with the difficulty on a sliding scale via changes to factors like enemy damage and health.

This flexible system should benefit raiding groups who consistently field 20-ish players rather than 20 exactly. No need for one or two unlucky guildmates to sit at the bar in the Arcantina or a never-ending recruitment treadmill to keep attendance up. While this low-stakes mid-season raid is a perfect time for a test run and Blizzard has made clear that this is not definite policy moving forward, a successful experiment could very well lead to Mythic becoming flexible for the foreseeable future.

Casuals, midcore, and alt army supreme commanders should make note of the required item level of 240 for Raid Finder difficulty. Given that this will be the tail end of Midnight Season 1, the gear available is quite powerful. The drops are “Sporefused”, meaning that they are not on one of the upgradeable tier tracks but rather pre-upgraded to the Voidforge maximum for a particular track.

  • Raid Finder: 259 (Veteran)
  • Normal: 272 (Champion)
  • Heroic: 285 (Hero)
  • Mythic: 298 (Myth)

Even if you’re not interested in continuing to acquire better gear for the rest of Season 1, there are some fun cosmetics that will make it worth a quick trip to Sporefall to slay Rotmire. The Luminous Sporeglider mount can be yours after collecting four Delicious Sporesnacks, which are a guaranteed once-weekly drop on any difficulty. On the loot table of all difficulties you’ll also find:
