New open-world StarCraft shooter announced (but doesn’t arrive until 2030)

BlizzCon is in full swing, and — as many might have at least partially predicted —  Blizzard has brought back several franchises that have been a bit less active of late for this year’s celebrations. Coming to a genre that the StarCraft franchise hasn’t yet explored, a new upcoming game was announced for future release.

Well, sort of. It might be more accurate to say StarCraft is gestating for future release. Way, way future release. The open-world shooter announced at BlizzCon 2026’s opening ceremony, using the same name as the original classic RTS, isn’t arriving until 2030.

Outside of the above trailer, we really don’t have a whole lot more info on the (up-)upcoming StarCraft title except a “Join the Dominion” theme, present across both the StarCraft site itself and the trailer’s description:

Frankly, it’s all giving more Helldivers than the previously shuttered non-release StarCraft: Ghost — but saying “time will tell” feels like it doesn’t quite do justice to the four-or-more-year gap we’ll have to live through from today’s announcement before we get to StarCraft (2030)’s release. Until then, we have plenty of time to speculate and, hopefully, playtest to make sure the game launches with the Blizzard Polish™ of yore.
