Wrath of the Lich King is the next WoW Remix event scheduled for summer 2027

At the end of BlizzCon’s World of Warcraft Midnight What’s Next panel, Blizzard devs revealed that Wrath of the Lich King Remix is coming sometime in the summer of 2027, around the same time as the last Midnight patch 12.2.7. That is the most concrete information we have of the event right now. Outside of a major change we’ll learn in the future, it’ll probably work just like Mists of Pandara Remix and Legion Remix where you get to blaze through a sped-up version of the expansion with some new abilities and mechanic tweaks — and plenty of revamped Wrath-style loot.

Wrath of the Lich King as the next Remix expansion was basically a no-brainer choice since The Last Titan, the final entry of the Worldsoul Saga, is set in Northrend. Narratively, Remix is a sped-up version of an expansion story that still manages to hit all major points. Priming players to go through these beats in Wrath Remix is a good way to showcase the difference of then-Northrend before players get to experience a newer version. It’s likely that Wrath Remix will not immediately launch alongside 12.2.7 because the patch has its own expansion recaps and stage setting but will probably be launched shortly after the patch releases.

What’s also intriguing are the implications it could have for World of Warcraft Classic. Notably missing from BlizzCon was any news regarding the future of both Classic progression servers and their realms, so right now we don’t know if The Burning Crusade Classic anniversary realms will move into the Wrath of the Lich Classic. If it did, it would be sometime early-mid 2027 as TBC Classic anniversary is projected to reach its last phase around the end of 2026. Having two instances of the same expansion release in the same year risks redundancy and though it helps Wrath of the Lich King is such a beloved expansion that most (probably) people won’t mind, with The Last Titan looming, that just seems like a lot of the same Northrend to give players.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what the move is for all versions of Wrath of the Lich King.
