The Queue: Ambiance!

We’re rounding the corner on October. All I really want is to curl up with a book and some soup or baked pasta or chili, but it’s a high of over 90 today, with 81% humidity. Whatever happened to the crisp, windy, fall ambiance? I won’t even get greedy and ask for a thematic Halloween thunderstorm. As a completely basic millennial woman, this feels personal.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us the questions and we’ll answer with a tall glass of ice water and a little mustache of sweat on our upper lip. Ugh.

The Queue: that time of year again

This Queue was going to be about something else, but this morning as I walked out my front door, I was quite forcibly reminded that there is, in fact, a season in between Humid Swamp and Spooky Pumpkins Season. It is, in fact, currently Joro Spider season — though I guess that could be filed under Spooky Season.. I’ve been knocking down the little webs all summer, but now the survivors are back with a vengeance. And I thought I hated the winter doldrums.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us questions and we’ll give you some answers just as soon as we get off the phone with the UGA entomology department extension.

The Queue: What’s in a name?

I have a headcanon that intrepid explorer Brann Bronzebeard is also by necessity a polyglot. He is the first one to make contact with all these new races and factions we meet, so he quite painstakingly tries to preserve things like their place names and such so that the Champion can have a touchstone. Unfortunately, Brann isn’t so great with punctuation or sometimes even the precise spellings, so sometimes the maps and names will change over time. It’s kind of his YOLO nature that it’s important to just get it down first, and edit later if it’s important.

Anyway, just in case you’re having a time removing the apostrophe from Nerub-ar Palace (yes, it is now officially Nerub-ar Palace), you too can feel free to blame Brann.

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us questions and we’ll scapegoat somebody into being an answer.

The Queue: pumpkin spice?

Whenever we get close to those seasonal lines I start getting antsy to get over the line, already. It was windy and overcast and just below 70 degrees this morning, so it’s definitely time to bundle up for fall, right? Please?

This is The Queue, our daily column where you ask us the questions and we’ll give you the answers as long as we can do so under a fuzzy blanket with a mug of warm apple cider.

Date Everything! is the best game showcased at Gamescom 2024; possibly ever

Date Everything is one of those games where either you are baffled at why or how anyone would think of this concept, let alone follow it through, with dozens of unique characters voiced by a star-studded cast, multiple relationship types, and statuses, and endings, for every single one of those characters, or you already wishlisted the game on Steam after the first part of this sentence.
