Matthew Rossi

Matthew Rossi @MatthewWRossi — Matthew Rossi is a synapsid, perhaps descended from Cynognathus. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and grew up there before leaving to see the world and be mistaken for a sasquatch and/or minor singing celebrity in various locales. He currently lives and writes in Edmonton alongside his amazing and beautiful wife and their cats. He’s written three collections of speculative fiction, Things That Never Were, Bottled Demon and At Last, Atlantis. He loves playing warriors in World of Warcraft, barbarians in Diablo III, and he’s beginning to notice a pattern here.

The Queue: I like the cut of Jenkin’s jib

Turns out the saying “I like the cut of X person’s jib” is an old nautical reference to sailing days, when you could identify the nationality of a ship by its jib sail. Anyway, I really like this Jenkins kid. He’s really a go getter, wants to make a difference, and he’s a native of Eden Prime, the planet we’re on. I bet he’s going to distinguish himself on this ‘find the beacon’ mission. He seems affable, eager to please, and a real go getter, and displays no awful space racism at all.

The Queue: Let’s start a riot!

Man, I really love Arcane. The only way this show could be better is if everyone was a dinosaur.

The past year has been pretty rocky, but there have been some things I’ve objectively enjoyed this year. Cyberpunk 2077 was a top tier favorite game for me in 2021, loved that. Arcane was super great, loved watching it. I think Wrath of the Righteous is one of the best CRPG’s ever made and have absolutely loved playing that game. Had a lot of fun playing and running D&D and other TTRPG’s, including a fun homebrew Mass Effect game we did here on the site. And several of Diablo 3‘s Seasons have been great. Plus, all sorts of cool new dinosaur news came out this year, I discovered Your Dinosaurs Are Wrong and kept watching old favorites like Eons.

So yeah, it’s been hard, but there have been some points of light out there.

This is the Queue. It’s the last Wednesday of 2021. I am running on fumes.
