Cosmetic Microtransactions

The recent book by Jason Schreier, Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, discusses the fight within Blizzard over how games would be monetized, and the introduction of microtransactions into the game catalogue.

Diablo 4’s cosmetic’s shop has had a constant parade of new sets since launch, most sets have been based on metal, broken relics, skins, bones, or scales of creatures with have seen around Sanctuary.

There may well be more divisive topics in gaming right now than microtransactions -- I mean, give it five minutes, I'm sure something will come up -- but it's clear that nothing is as perennial a source of gamer discontent than they are.
