Breakfast Topic: The trouble with addons
I don’t typically run with an elaborate addon configuration in World of Warcraft, and patch day is most of the reason why. It’s not that I object to addons in any way, but I find it a nuisance to keep them up to date and working — especially when patch day rolls around. After all, the default UI is good enough… isn’t it?
That’s what I tell myself, but inevitably by the time another patch comes along, I’ll find that I’ve picked up dozens of addons that help out in various convenient ways. There’s Auctionator to help buy and sell things (it’s been a must-have when I’ve been trying to find rare-drop battle pets), Pet Journal Enhanced because the default pet journal drives me crazy, Postal to deal with mail management, Master Plan to streamline garrison functions, and… well, you get the idea. Addons add up.
So on every patch day I inevitably ruminate on whether I really need these addons as I hunt around for updated versions… and usually wind up continuing to use most of them. So share, readers: what’s your addon preference — do you go all-in with game additions or do you try to stick to the base UI?
