The Queue: Who’s a good boy

Welcome back to The Queue, the Q&A column for all things Blizzard related. If you have a question for the Queue, leave a comment and you may see it answered!

I think I need to make it a point not to have Alex pick out my hunter’s pets anymore. I’m beginning to think he’s secretly trying to turn me into a warlock. A warlock that shoots arrows and bullets.

CATCH-22 ASKED:

Q4TQ:

How can I tell how far off I am from earning the Heroes of the Storm card mount?

How does it figure it also?  Using for example the priest deck to win 100 times?  Or using any of the decks to total up to 100 wins across them all?

Someone already addressed this in the comments section, but I’m going to answer this anyway, because I’m pretty sure you’re not the only person that would like to know! To check on your win total, head to the quests section, and it’ll have the number listed. You can use any of your decks — it’s not which class you used, it’s just how many wins you have across the board. Good luck!

@THAT_JPEC_GUY ASKED VIA TWITTER:

Do you think we’ll ever see more modern character customization in WoW, or expanded options (e.g. height, weight, age, etc.)? Expanding on this, how would you change character creation/customization in WoW?

I don’t think we’ll see stuff like height or weight sliders, and some facial options already have an aged appearance. But I’d like to see more hair options, and more hair color options made available — this is the kind of thing that could be incorporated into the Barber Shop and make it a much more viable tool than it is right now. It’s nice to have in game, but it’s not something regularly utilized, because it doesn’t get any kind of regular unique updates or anything. To me, particularly in an age where every new game seems to be about introducing more and more customization options, that seems like a waste of a feature. But we’ll have to wait and see if they do anything — I hope so, though!

A SUPERB VILLAN ASKED:

With how often we deal with metaphysical concepts in World of Warcraft, and their somewhat tangible properties, have you ever wondered what souls taste like?

You know, that’s a very good question, so I decided to check in with Alex Ziebart, as he seems to be taking playing a warlock very seriously on our livestream and I thought he might have some good input. He had the following to say:

The taste of a soul depends entirely on quality and proper sourcing. Mass market souls, the sort of soul any random moron might loot off of any freshly murdered creature on Azeroth, are oversized and flavorless as a result. Their mass is artificially increased for availability and ease of access. Organic souls handpicked by one knowledgeable in the trade — such as your local warlock — retain all of their natural flavors. Don’t look at an oversized soul and assume it’s better because it’s bigger; the proper soul is of a reasonable size, and as a result, its flavor is more concentrated.

Sourcing, as I mentioned before, should also be taken into consideration. There is no one flavor. The soul of an orc is heavy in umami — meaty, savory — and an excellent dinner soul. The tauren are an acceptable substitute when no orcs are available. The soul of a gnome is surprisingly acidic; if you were hoping for something sweet, I would suggest the night elf — the elven soul is both sweet and spicy, like a chili candy. Don’t bother with the draenei unless you’re a thrillseeker. The soul of the draenei burns on the way in and worse on the way out.

If you’re thinking of consuming the soul of a creature lacking in sapience, I wouldn’t bother unless you’re desperate. In this case, settle for their meat. Put the soul to better use — use it to fuel a campfire to cook the meat, perhaps.

In other news, I’m just a little concerned about my employer.

@DELIANA_VB ASKED VIA TWITTER:

How do you feel about the roleplay viability of alternate universe draenei?

They’re absolutely viable! I actually wrote about this a little bit in one of the Role Play columns — it talks about roleplaying as a draenei or an orc from the alternate universe.

RAZWICK ASKED:

QftQ: Does everyone like the way that dugeons are usually forts or buildings or some sort of base of operations for the bad guys? Do we need more ‘Outdoor’ dungeons like the Overgrowth?

I’d like to see more outdoor dungeons (still instanced), not so much more where the plants are the enemy, but where we’re walking through a forest hunting down the enemy and rooting out their camps.

What sort of dungeons would you guys like to see/see more of?

One of my favorite dungeons of all time has to be Vortex Pinnacle, just because it’s really unique in how it plays — I like the visuals of being high up in the clouds. That’s the kind of dungeon that I wish we had more of, where it’s not just about traversing point a to point b, it involves being at different elevations, too. I liked Oculus for the same reason — I didn’t like the flying aspect of it, but I liked that it played with vertical levels and elevation as well as horizontal, in more of a three dimensional approach. I wish we had more of that.

@DRACONICMAN ASKED VIA TWITTER:

Silithus needs a Cata-style revamp bad. What would you do to make this backwater zone more interesting?

Oh man, are you in luck because that place is just crawling with all kinds of untapped lore, mostly revolving around C’thun and the original War of the Shifting Sands. It never really got touched, more than a few references here and there — most of the original Silithus revamp back in patch 1.8 was to bring it up to speed with the rest of vanilla content in preparation for the Ahn’Qiraj raid, but it’s gotten very little since then, other than slightly more focus placed on the Twilight’s Hammer in Cataclysm.

But all the stuff that originally went down in Silithus, that’s all stuff that could be played with in a zone revamp. Bring back Brann Bronzebeard, have him looking into the history of the area, at that original war and what transpired. And maybe even delve and reveal what happened before then — look at the origins of the Aqir, how they evolved over time, look at maybe the original imprisonment of C’thun and the Titans involvement. There’s a lot to play with there, honestly!
