Breakfast Topic: Are less raids per expansion a good thing?
We’ve seen a decline in raids per expansion over the years. Warlords of Draenor in particular presents us with only three, down from five in Mists of Pandaria, although it’s also intended to be a quicker expansion in terms of when it will come out. Cataclysm also had five, and Wrath of the Lich King had seven if we count Sarth and Ruby Sanctum. My question is, are we okay with three and done in terms of raids in exchange for shorter expansions overall?
I personally would rather see more dungeons and less raids — dungeons are easier to digest overall, and you can more easily put together a group of five to conquer them. Even with flex raiding you still need at least ten to get in the door, and they tend to be an activity that takes up a longer period of time. But I’m not sure my preference here is one that’s shared across the board, and with LFR a part of the game now it seems that we’ve moved away from dungeon content towards raid content.
Is this a move that’s good for the game? Is all content content or is there a qualitative difference that makes dungeons preferable for some players? I know I prefer them now. How do you feel about it? Would you give up a raid tier for three or four dungeons?
