Breakfast Topic: What’s your favorite Blizzard music?

I’m having one of those weeks where I’m obsessed with a particular piece of music — this time, it’s the soundtrack from Auchindoun, which contains all the sweeping parts of the login screen track along with a lot of eerie chanting. If there’s one thing Blizzard has consistently nailed with every game they’ve put out there, it’s the soundtracks. From the massive choral pieces in Warcraft all the way to the quiet guitar from Diablo, I don’t think I’ve ever run into anything in their soundtracks I haven’t liked.

When I’m writing, I can’t really listen to songs with lyrics — it distracts me, and more often than not I end up typing the lyrics of whatever I’m listening to instead of the writing I’m supposed to be doing. So when I’m working on writing one thing or another, I’m usually listening to something instrumental. Soundtracks are really good for this, because hey, they’re designed for evoking a mood, and mood helps when I’m working on a story or an article or whatever I happen to be working on.

For 25 years, Blizzard has been pumping out amazing tunes right alongside their games. My favorites — I can’t pick just one — vary from game to game, although I invariably find myself coming back to Warcraft simply because there’s so much variety between tracks and between expansions. What about you guys? Is there a particular Warcraft track that gets you every time? Do you prefer Diablo‘s haunting soundtrack? Do the tavern tunes from Hearthstone hold a special place in your heart? What’s your favorite Blizzard music?
