Breakfast Topic: A look back at Draenor
Ah, Draenor. You were our home for two years.
There was a lot to like about Draenor — a superlative leveling experience, excellent voice acting, cool as heck cinematics to cap off several of its zones, some pretty fun dungeons. And there was a lot to dislike about the experience — inconsistent and unclear decisions about how flying would work or even if it would, a lack of story in endgame, a feeling of wasted opportunity in terms of how the raids unfolded and the lack of meaningful content patches overall.
In the end, I think it was really the lack of content that hampered Warlords of Draenor the most. Farming Apexis in small enclaves and running LFR over and over again (exacerbated by the fact that at max level you could get into LFR much more easily than you could run a heroic dungeon, no proving grounds needed, and the gear was better so dungeons were quickly obsolete until the coming of Mythic dungeons) made the amazing experience of getting to 100 feel like a colossal letdown once you were there. And the fact that there was only one content patch in an expansion that ultimately lasted nearly as long as Pandaria did felt frankly awful. Pandaria had content patch after content patch, even its PVP patches had soloable content in them.
But now, our sojourn in Draenor comes to a close. Legion seems poised to deliver all the endgame content you could ask for, and so we’re left looking back at what almost was, what could have been, and what actually happened while preparing for the future. So what was your best moment on Draenor? What did you love, hate, or just wish hadn’t been? What will you take from this expansion?
