The Queue: Will it fountain?
Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!
The first thing I do when I run into an item that can only be used in water is to test said item in Dalaran’s fountain. Why? Because I can. It turns out the Love Boat from the Love is in the Air event can be used in the fountain — although it despawns almost immediately after it’s been summoned. So the answer of whether or not it will fountain is a solid sort of. I have many more solid answers for you in the column below.
Is it possible to put something in the game that can’t be datamined?
It is! There have been several instances of hidden items that were added, but otherwise hidden away until people figured out what they were, how they worked, and what they unlocked. Or of loot that still hasn’t been found, like the Rogue-only Mask of Artful Dodging, or the elusive Shoe Shine Kit toy. Both of these items are supposedly in game, but nobody’s managed to figure out where to find them…yet. All the pieces have been datamined, but the process to obtain them — well, you can’t really datamine instructions.
Q4tQ: Is Thrall aware of the phrase “Thrall’s balls”?
Fun fact! The phrase “Thrall’s balls” was originally used by Nazgrim, who first uttered it during Cataclysm — after Thrall had already departed and left Garrosh Hellscream to lead the Horde in his stead. Given the time period in which it was used, and what Thrall was up to at the time — you know, saving the world and all that — it’s doubtful he immediately heard about it.
However, it’s been quite some time since Cataclysm, and the phrase has apparently gained in popularity and usage. (If you play an orc, try typing /whoa in game.) So I’d say he’s probably aware of it by now, and of course it’s too late to do anything — I mean everyone is saying it now. As for what he thinks about it…well, that’s another question altogether, isn’t it?
If an Imp Mother breeds imps, what breeds grells? Is there a Grell Mother?
Despite their similarities in appearance, grell aren’t actually demons, while imps most definitely are. The grell are actually forest spirits, a living embodiment of the wild side of nature. There’s rumors that they may have been created by Aessina, but since those rumors came from Brann Bronzebeard, there are…doubts as to their validity. It’s possible that grell and imps are related, somewhere along an evolutionary line — or maybe imps are just grell that decided working for the Burning Legion was a great idea.
Imp Mothers aren’t exactly “mothers,” either — their stomachs serve as a kind of portal through which imps emerge. Now there’s a statement that just gets worse the more you read it, right? Regardless, it would seem that Imp Mothers serve kind of as a way to summon or move large quantities of imps. Grell don’t really need that kind of mobility — while they may be a little annoying, they aren’t really a “weapon” for anyone in the same way a gang of angry imps are for the Burning Legion.
I’d say Wrath is definitely up there — professions were only so-so up until that point, but in Wrath we got Inscription, which at the time was really useful, and pretty much every profession got a closer look and a wider variety of things to craft. But the one thing I really liked about crafting in vanilla and Burning Crusade was the sheer visual variety of items you could create. There were some pretty unique and spectacular models out there for armor and gear (Lionheart Executioner, I’m looking at you).
I miss that variety. I miss it in crafting, and I miss it in random drops around the world. Vanilla and Burning Crusade may have been in that era of poorly-matched clownsuits, but the advent of transmog and the wardrobe has all but alleviated that issue. The problem with so much variety in the early days was that you couldn’t match your gear and have optimal stats unless you were looking at a tier set. Transmog solved that problem.
So I guess what I’m trying to say here — and I may have gotten off topic from your original question, and I’m sorry about that — is Blizzard. Please. Bring on the clown suits again. We’re well equipped to handle them, now.
Q4tQ: Do you play WoW/Heroes/Overwatch etc with ingame sounds/music on?
Typically speaking with games like Overwatch I have the music on, but turned down pretty low — I like to be able to hear the people I’m playing with, and keep my ears open for the wide variety of sound cues in the game. With WoW, I will usually keep zone music on the first couple of times I level through a new expansion/see new raids or dungeons, and then either swap to my own music for future alts, or just fire up Netflix or a podcast on the second monitor for background noise while I’m leveling. I don’t think I’ve ever turned off the ingame sounds — I may have turned them down fairly low, but they’re still there.
