How do you feel about game community?

Back around Wrath of the Lich King, the server I was on (Norgannon) had a very particular community. Now, it was a terrible community, in my opinion — guilds sniping at each other, the top two constantly engaging in crap-talk on the forums despite the guild leadership forbidding it, and everyone else on the forums either waiting for the next drama bomb or actively trying to start one…it wasn’t pretty. Still, it may have been awful and toxic, but it was ours — when we killed Algalon for server first and killed Yogg with no Keepers up for Death’s Demise titles, we did it as much to flick a middle finger to the toxic people on the forums as anything else.

Now, here I am years later, and to be honest I couldn’t even tell you if there is a community on my current server. And I don’t know if I changed — okay, I know I did — or if the game changed and people simply don’t care that much anymore. Would it even be a bad thing if that were the case? Server community had its ups and downs, but what does it mean if there’s not much, if any, server community at all nowadays? Does it mean we just have one big World of Warcraft game community? That community organizes on Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, or Facebook instead of on the forums?

Does the game community still matter? Does it exist on the same scale, or did it migrate or change? What do you think about the game in terms of community?
